Hi Kristine,
I appreciate all the details you've shared here about your vendor invoice. At QuickBooks, we know you sometimes need to make changes to sales tax calculated on transactions, and with QuickBooks Self-Employed, it's easy to apply or remove sales tax. In the browser, vendor transactions are handled through the Transactions menu on the left. When you create a transaction, you would simply hit Apply if you wanted to add sales tax. To remove it from an existing transaction, hover over the number in the Sales Tax column and click Remove when it appears.
Here's how these processes are handled in the app: Sales Tax Overview

Enjoy your day. :)

I'm glad to hear it worked! I'll make note of your addition to the feature request for custom categories as well. We're always interested in hearing what we can do to improve QuickBooks for our users.
I know what it's like being a QuickBooks newbie. We were all there once upon a time! The Experienced Member tag has to do with your status as a community member, not your QuickBooks know-how. These are automatically generated by the community forum and can't be changed. All the same, you're in good hands with support and the community, and I'm sure you'll be a pro in no time. :)
I have a similar problem, I will not be charging gst as I’m a small business earning under 30000/ year. But need to still charge 7 % pst On most of my services. There is no option to customize that, that I could find. Is it possible?
Hello Devinlapointe,
Thanks for explaining your situation. I see how you need a little bit more of a customized option when it comes to the sales tax that's being applied to your transactions. For that reason, I recommend reaching out to the dedicated QuickBooks Self-Employed team to learn how you might be able to set it up or what workaround you can use if it's not possible. Once again, you can do so by going to our Contact Us page, choosing QuickBooks Self-Employed, and then filling out the email form.
I hope that helps!
