In great news for Mac users, the QuickBooks Online Mac app beta version is now available for download. Just like the launch of the QuickBooks Online Windows app. The QuickBooks Online Mac app means you can easily work on multiple tasks at once by having multiple windows open, even across different monitors or side-by-side.
You may be wondering why you should use the app when you can just log on to the website instead. You can work either way but here are some cool things you can only do with the QuickBooks Online desktop app.
1. Stay Signed In
Unlike the QuickBooks Online website, which signs you out after a period of inactivity, the QuickBooks Online Mac app lets you stay signed in for as long as your desktop is turned on or until you close the application.
Just click the Stay signed in checkbox on the sign in page.
2. Load Pages Faster
Test this out by clicking items down the left navigation bar. Try Customers, Suppliers or Transactions for example. They all pop up much faster than in a browser window.
3. Easily Open Multiple Windows
You can easily work in multiple windows. Drag and drop windows anywhere, even across monitors and side-by-side.
This is helpful when you want to look at several things at once, such as:
- Three versions of the same report
- A rejected and a pending quote
- The Sales Transaction list and an open invoice
The open windows will automatically refresh, easily bringing in the most up to date information across all windows. For example, when you edit an expense report in another window it will automatically refresh with the updated data.
From Reports, click the open window icon to open the Profit and Loss report in a separate window.
Click Create (+) and click the open window icon to open a new invoice in a separate window.
Go to Transactions > Sales and drag an invoice outside the list until you see its thumbnail. Release your mouse to display the invoice in a separate window.
To switch between open windows
Press Command + ~ (tilde, below Esc).
4. Work Faster with Mac Shortcuts
QuickBooks Online Mac shortcuts require fewer keystrokes than on the website. For example, press Option + i instead of Ctrl + Option + i to create an invoice.
From the QuickBooks Online Mac menu bar, choose Help > Keyboard Shortcuts to see the whole list.
5. Keep on Top of Things with Quickview
Last but certainly not least, QuickView keeps an eye on your transactions and lets you know when something needs your attention, right from your desktop!
To use QuickBooks Online Payroll on the Mac app, first login to QuickBooks Online on a browser and turn on Payroll within the Employees tab. This will enable Payroll on the Mac app.
