How do I enable API access to our QBO account?

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I have already setup a developer account and I'm working through Python example code to connect to the Sandboxed company.

The ultimate goal is to connect to our Online account to access live data through the API. I am trying to understand how that is achieved before committing too much time developing an App that cannot access our Online account.
