Hi there info1700,

It's great that you're trying to connect your banks to your QuickBooks Online account. It's a great feature that can save you time with data entry in your books so that you can spend more time running your business. I can provide some information about bank connections and multi-factor authentication.

Two-step verification is a security measure offered by banks in order to prevent anyone other than yourself to access information on your bank account. This prevents unauthorized access to your bank account as well as other automated services from being able to connect to your bank as well. This does prevent QuickBooks from being able to connect, due to it being an automated service, and the code needed to get through this two-step authentication can't be sent to Quickbooks. In order to be able to connect your bank accounts to QuickBooks Online to import transactions directly, this security measure would need to be deactivated for your account on your bank's website.

If you want to keep that measure active on your bank account, you can import your bank transactions through different file types such as .csv files and .qbo (QuickBooks) file extension among others. If you were to want to explore that option, you can find the steps on how to manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online by clicking on the provided link.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out here.

Hi,

I am having the same issue with scotia bank. at which my client was told that they could not deactivate it. RBC is currently allowing you to choose if you want it or not.

is QuickBooks planning on making a patch to work with these types of issues? Not everyone has client's online banking access to grab these csv. or qbo. file formats and many clients are already slow on getting information like bank statements to us. What is QuickBooks resolution for this?

Hi PadgettPamela.

Being able to syncing a bank account to your QuickBooks Online is a great way to help save time and effort as well as making sure no transaction is left behind. I can help go over what's going on with the the two factor authentication and QuickBooks Online.

Recently a number of banks added two factor authentication to their log in which has caused issues with connecting to QuickBooks. This is why customers are getting errors when trying to connect or download bank transactions to your account. At this time our technicians are working together with different banks to get this fixed so you can connect again without issue. Currently there is no ETA for when this will be fixed but you can contact our support team and be added to the ticket for the bank you use to get updates on what's happening. You can reach our support team using one of the following methods:

Schedule a Callback or start a Chat: click (?)Help in the upper right in QuickBooks Online > type and enter "Contact support" into the QB Assistant > click Contact Us > explain your situation > click Let's Talk > choose Get a callback or Start a Chat.
Social MediaFacebookTwitter, and Instagram.
Support hours are from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET.

In the meantime you can ask your clients to send you the bank feeds manually for you to upload which can be done by following this article. If you do decide to use this method you should also make sure that no duplicates are made. If you see any duplicate entries you can exclude them using the following steps:

  1. Go to the Banking menu or Transactions menu, then select the Banking tab.
  2. Select the For Review tab.
  3. Select the checkbox of the transactions to exclude.
  4. Select Exclude.

If you have any questions let us know and we'd be happy to help.

I am not able to connect to RBC bank.

I read the article that explains that Quick Books Online is not very secure platform and does not support two-step verification that Banks recommend to use.

I have disabled two-step verification, but still I am not able to connect.

RBC bank requires to answer secure question.

Quick Books shows this question and I am answering it correctly.

However, I am still getting error: "That's not the answer on record".

It seems that Quick Books does not submit the answer correctly to RBC.

This looks like a bug.

Can you test and help me to connect my RBC Bank account to my QBO subscription ?

This post is now eight months old. Has any progress been made? This seems like enough time for a fix.

On the phone with support and they told me no resolution yet. I have to either turn off 2 step authentication or manually download the bank transactions.

It'll be hard to explain to clients that QuickBooks is now asking for more money while their stuff isn't even fixed since Sept 2021...

It's now March 2023 and I STILL cannot connect.  My books are so far behind now I'm pulling my hair out.

I am surprised and disappointed at the dishonesty of your staff and your advertising.

The steff told me the problem was I did not have the correct bank info and password! The real problem is for almost a year your system has not worked with the two-step verification required by a growing number of banks. the trusth is buried on your website in this post: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-ca/account-management/every-time-i-turn-on-the-bank-t...

Why wasn't I told this by your staff before I spent almost a day trying to figure it out!

More to the point the information on your website is fraudulant. You say it automatically collects bank info. Currently it does not! Please say that on the site! It is hard to trust a company that is knowingly dishonest!

Unreal! This must be a mistake. How, in 2024, would Quickbooks, a financial services app, think it's acceptable to not support 2-step verification, and encourage users to turn it OFF? Can't be right.
