I'm wondering if receipts can be uploaded to Quickbooks Online and then automatically matched to transactions uploaded there from the CSV, as I have to upgrade from Self-Employed and apparently there is no way to do this other than manually uploading.

Hi cthorne,
QuickBooks Online offers features and tools which give you the flexibility to manage your business the most efficient way possible. I'd be glad to share more info about uploading info so your QB Online account is up to date.
The good news is there are several ways to import receipts into QuickBooks Online. We know that your time is valuable and it's important to us you're able to get your work done on time. You can use your mobile device to enter receipts, you can also send us an email with your receipts and we can enter them for you based on the info you provided. You'd still have to manually confirm each transaction to make sure everything is in order. I encourage you to check out this article here with more info on managing receipts in QB Online. Keep in mind that you'll have to manually match some of the transactions to ensure accuracy. Give this a try and if you need help, don't hesitate to reach back to me in the comments below.
Since you've just migrated to QB Online, here are some helpful tutorials/webinars you can check out in order to cut the learning curve. Let me know if you have questions, I got your back.

Thank you for your reply. So the process should go something as follows if I understand correctly:
1. Download CSV of all transactions from QB Self Employed.
2. Download file with all receipts from QB Self Employed.
3. Set up new account with QB Online.
4. Upload the CSV file.
5. Send an email (or series of emails depending on size) with the receipts that were previously downloaded ensuring there is one receipt per file.
6. QB Online will try to match up receipts with transactions, but I will have to manually confirm each one to ensure they are correctly matched up.
Another question, will the categories also transfer over to QB Online one-for-one, or are there differences between the categories that I should perhaps make in the CSV manually before uploading? Needing to re-categorize each transaction manually would be quite time consuming, and to be honest some of them I may not even remember how they should be categorized now.
Thanks again!
Good day! You've outlined the right steps to follow. If you need help with those steps, don't hesitate to let me know. When it comes to the categories, QuickBooks will transfer over the categories based on how the CSV is structured. I'd recommend making sure you've set up your CSV as accurate as possible before uploading them to QuickBooks. Feel free to ask questions.
