Hello chris237,
It's vital you're able to add a tax line mapping on your account and I'll be happy to show you how. QuickBooks equips you with the necessary tools and resources which help you get your work done faster.
In order to add a tax line, you'll need to make sure you've set up sales tax on your account, here's how:
Check this community article if you want to add taxes from a different province or set up a new sales tax code. For more info on GIFI codes and mapping, check out this informative article here. Keep in mind that the Workpapers feature is available for QuickBooks Online Accountant.
Feel free to ask questions in the comments below. I'll be one message away.
Hi @JamesM ,
Thanks for the reply but I've since moved on.
I wasn't referring to sales taxes but rather the mappings for accounts on the chart of accounts to the various GIFI numbers required to submit a Canadian T2 corporate return. They are separate things and it was available in the previous Desktop version I was using. The WorkPapers feature of the Accountant version is not a viable option due to the exorbitant price and if you are wanting to file the T2 without an accountant involved.
I've since been informed via support that this is not an available feature of QBO - which seems ludicrous but I'm realizing many features in QBO are not on par with previous desktop versions and/or are not even available. QBO is not a replacement for Desktop when comparing them feature to feature.
Cheers,
Chris
Hi Chris,
Thanks for following up on this thread, and it's good you had the opportunity to speak with support outside of the QuickBooks Community. What they told you is correct: there isn't a way to add tax line mapping for accounts in the Chart of Accounts like there is for QuickBooks Desktop. As you've noted, QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online have many different features and options. They offer the same basic principal of managing business books, but aren't designed to mirror each other feature-for-feature.
I can appreciate how this would impact a business though, especially one that's come from the Desktop platform. Even if you didn't migrate from QuickBooks Desktop, however, I see that this feature is important to you and know that working with an accountant isn't always a viable option. The Pro Tax module for QuickBooks Online Accountant is the feature to use though to handle any sort of GIFI information for a set of books.
In case the other person you spoke with didn't already touch on this, I invite you to submit feedback about this for our product development team. The following link outlines how to go about that right in your QBO account: How do I submit feedback? The comments are forwarded to the product team so they can see what features are impacting users and what could be enhanced to make things even easier when using the program.
I see you say you've moved on, which could mean that you've moved on from QBO. Whatever the case, I wish you the best with your business and bookkeeping. I'll be around if you did have more questions.
