How can I make a bank account inactive when I do this in chart of accounts it say it is being used by a product or service

Hello,

Making a bank account inactive is simple to do in QuickBooks Online. Doing this will definitely help you stay organized. You've come to the right place for help!

Follow these quick and easy steps to make a bank account inactive:

1. Click the Banking tab on the left navigation menu.

2. Select the small Pencil icon next to the bank account you're trying to make inactive.

3. Click Edit account info.

4. Check off the box next to Disconnect this account on save.

5. Click Save and Close.

That's all there is to it! Once you've completed the above steps, your bank account will be inactive.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Cheers.

I cannot make an account inactive because it says that the account is being used by a product or service. It hasn't been linked to an online bank feed in over a year and has a balance of $0.00. Why is this not working?

Hi Ainsley-Pass01,

Thank you for reaching out in the QuickBooks Community with the experience you've been having. I can see what you're trying to accomplish. It is unusual to see a product or service associated with a bank account, but I can guide you to where you need to check this.

To see what accounts your products and services are connected to, follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to the Gear Icon.
  2. Select Products and Services.
  3. Click on the Micro-Gear Icon at the top of the product and service list.
  4. Ensure there's a checkmark in the boxes beside the accounts; Income, Expense, and Inventory.
  5. Review the accounts to see if the account you want to make active is listed in any of these columns.
  6. Upon finding the account, you're looking for Click Edit.
  7. Make the required changes, and click Save and Close.

If you would like to review editing products or services, you can check out this article: Edit a product or service item.

Your issue should be resolved and you'll be able to make the account inactive now. If you want to touch base, I'm here to help. Have an awesome evening!

How can I make a bank account inactive when I do this in chart of accounts it say it is being used by a product or service

I have made inactive all the products/services that I think could be associated with an account in my chart of accounts (not a bank account - an income account).  However, QB still says I can't make the account inactive because it is used by a product or service.  This is soooo frustrating.  Now what?
