How do I give an employee an advance on there payroll? I know how to deduct it but not how to enter it
Thanks
Hi mary53,
It's nice to see you here! QuickBooks enables you to give an advance to an employee on an upcoming pay, which will then be reimbursed through payroll deductions. I'd be glad to assist!
Follow these steps to enter the advance pay item to the employee's pay cheque.
1. Open the Enter Payroll Information window
2. Select the employee for the advance, then click the Continue
3. Click the employee's name. The Review or Change Pay Cheque window appears
4. Hit the Clear All button. This removes all other payroll items so you don't deduct any tax amounts from the advance. The taxes will be added when you deduct the advance repayment from the employee's next pay cheque.
5. In the Earnings table, click on a blank row in the Item Name column and select Advance
6. Enter the Amount, then hit Save
7. Select Create Pay Cheque
Note; Be sure to enter the advance repayment when you pay your employee at the usual pay period and ensure it is within the same payroll liabilities remittance period. If you don't enter the repayment within the same remittance period that the advance was given in, your PD7A will be incorrect and could result in you having to pay more than you owe.

Hi mary53,
Thanks for getting back to me here. When you open Employees and then Employee Centre, double click on the employee name to open their Information. You'll see the tab on the left panel to open Payroll info.
