Alberta construction workers get paid 3.6% holiday pay. How do I enter this in the holiday pay column?

Hi there lyle1,

Ensuring that your employees are paid correctly for stat holidays is crucial. QuickBooks Online makes it easy to enter the amount that your employees have earned for stat holidays while you're running payroll. Let me give you a hand.

When you navigate to the Payroll menu, then the Employees tab, and hit Run Payroll you'll see a column for Stat Holiday Pay. You are required to manually calculate and enter the number of hours of stat holiday pay your employees have earned during a pay period. Since you're looking to enter it as a percentage rather than by hours, you'll have to do some calculations first. You should calculate what the 3.6% amount is as a dollar amount, convert it to hours based on your employee's rate, and enter it as hours in the designated field on each pay run that it's necessary.

Take care and have a great weekend. Don't forget that if you have any other QuickBooks questions, I'm only a reply away.

Alberta construction workers get paid 3.6% holiday pay. It should be as easy to do as their 6% vacation pay. Why is it so tricky?

Hi there jnpage,

It's important that your payroll information be correctly entered for your employees to be paid the right amount. QuickBooks Online Payroll is a great tool able to help you keep track of the pay you've given your employees to help you out with remittances, as well as year end-forms. I can provide information about stat holiday pay in QuickBooks Online.

Within QuickBooks Online, the stat pay would need to be entered manually using the calculation method provided by my colleague in their last response, as t needs to be entered in hours of stat pay. I can see that having the calculation done automatically based on a custom rate would be a feature that you'd like to see in the software to help simplify payroll for those holidays. I recommend leaving feedback in the system by clicking on the Gear Icon, then Feedback. The comments made in that section are considered by our developers when creating new features for QuickBooks Online.
