fees for direct deposit in QB desktop

Why does QBO have integrated direct deposit for payroll but QB desktop has to pay a third party (Telpay)?

I would think it would be the same programming used within the programs.

Hi money-girl,

It's great that you researched the differences between QuickBooks Online and Desktop and how you can process payments. They both have a lot of great features to help save you time depending on your needs. I can explain a bit more about direct deposit in QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online.

The main reason that QuickBooks Online is able to sync with your bank to make payments is due to both the payments subscription and the online aspect that allows the link. QuickBooks Desktop however was made as a stand alone product that does not require internet to work. Since this is the case it doesn't have the same online functions that QuickBooks Online does and why it requires a third party app in order to make payments directly.

Telpay is the recommended app to use but if you wish to look into others for payments you can follow this link to find a list of third party apps that will work with QuickBooks Desktop.

Have a great day

Obviously Quickbooks Desktop can connect online to my bank otherwise I could not download transactions for banking and credit cards.  Why can't it be used also for direct deposit for payroll.  If I can connect online to a third party payroll app why can't it connect to the bank for payroll the same way QBO does?

I hear you on this. QuickBooks Desktop offers a variety of amazing features which make it easy to manage your business.  Sine the program is designed as standalone program, this creates limitations when  it comes to connecting to other online platforms. To pass this caveat, other users prefer using QuickBooks Online as it offers more flexibility with other online platforms.

That being said, your feedback is valuable and it's vital your voice is heard. I recommend sending this as feedback directly to our engineers. You can do this by clicking the Help menu > Send Feedback Online. New product ideas and improvements are largely based on the feedback we get from you.

I find it ironic that you want me to send feedback in Quickbooks Desktop "online"
