Hi keisha-chotoosin,
Thanks for reaching out to Community. Welcome! As you are aware, employers are required to indicate whether their employees or any of their family members are eligible for dental care insurance, or coverage of dental services. This is mandatory, beginning with the 2023 tax year. Rest assured, that QuickBooks Online Payroll will automatically update the associated forms in keeping aligned with government guidelines.
The update will also include the required codes, and this should be released in mid to late December. To learn more about the Canadian Dental Care Plan and the Changes coming to T4/T4A reporting, click here.

I see this has been added, not sure if anyone can answer this question as i need to now update. Everyone here is covered at my place of employment for all family members, spouse etc.... But not everyone has kids and a spouse, so for the single guys do i put single coverage only... or do i put a blanket response for everyone of Employee, spouse and children?
Thanks
Hi Jsos,
Thanks for joining us here. The new Dental Benefit is mandatory and has been automatically updated in all QuickBooks products. However, you'll need to ensure you add this to your employee profiles. Here's how;
1. Open Payroll, then Employees
2. Select the employee
3. Hit Edit in the Deductions and contributions section
4. Under the Dental benefits access, use the ▼ dropdown menu to select the correct code for the employee
5. Hit Done
Repeat these steps for each employee.
Let us know if you have other questions. We are here for you!
I was able to enter the codes ,however I am not able to change someone's code. By us they don't get Benefits until 3 months working.... If I would have known before I would not have entered any code, but now I am stuck with code 1 ? I did go in deductions and changed de code, hit "Done", but no update..... Help me out please ?
Hi ALBH,
Thanks for joining us here. The Dental Benefit, is mandatory beginning with the 2023 tax year and can be set up within the employee profile. However, I can understand that the code may need to changed and I appreciate you taking the necessary steps. I've taken the liberty to walk through the process on my end and changing the employee Dental Benefit code was successful.
I suggest opening the employee profile, then edit their Deductions/Contributions. Select the appropriate code from the dropdown menu and hit Done. Return to Payroll and select Payroll tax. Open the Filings tab, then select Preview from the dropdown menu for the T4 Employee slips. Locate the employee form and you should see the new code in Box 45.
If you experience the same result, please contact us outside of Community. It would be our pleasure to work with you in real-time and ensure your T4 slips are accurate, without further delay!
