Hi Jenrockburnis
Do you have the inventory module for QBO? Available on the Plus version.
If so, it will depend on how you want to track your fabric. Like do you want to keep track of the original 15 yard bolts as well as any amounts that you cut it into?
Hi LeithG!
Yes, I do have the Plus version. I don't 'see' an inventory module? What I would like to do is... both? Mainly, I would like the cut pieces to be subtracted from the 15 yards, as each order goes through. I have QBO connected to my Etsy shop, through OneSaas.
Okay cool, that's a good start.
So from your Invoicing menu, you can go to Products and Services
Click on the New button here, and you'll want to create an inventory item. This will prompt QBO to start counting things via orders/receiving and sales.
What I might suggest is that your purchases stay in the 15m and you setup fractional unit sales for the different lengths. EG if you sell 5m sections, you'd set that up as a sale of 0.33 units of your inventory item.
Alternatively, your units can be metres, that just means you'd have to remember to order appropriately (15 x however many spools you want).
Give that a try and see how far you get ;)
Great!! Thank you so much! I'll try that! :D
You need an additional app with the matrix inventory and unit of measurements feature to integrate with your QBO account.
Hey there @jenrockburn and welcome to the QuickBooks family!
I can see that @LeithG has you off to a great start on how you should handle your specific type of inventory using QuickBooks Online. I can see that they've given you some great pointers, so I'd like to supplement that with some articles on inventory tracking so that you've got lots of resources to refer to.
You may consider consulting with your accountant on this as well, seeing as you'll need to decide on a way to best track and sell fabric in different quantities. Your accountant can work with you directly in QuickBooks if you send them an invitation through the My Accountant page. The Find a pro to help button on the same page will point you in the direction of our database of QuickBooks-certified ProAdvisors, like @LeithG, who can assist you with tasks like these in more depth.
I trust that with the guidance you've received and the resources above, you'll be on the road to accurately tracking your inventory in no time. Take care and have a great weekend!
