I need to add an account for employee training. What Detail/Type should I use for this, nothing seems to match the intent.

Quickbooks Desktop I could just add a new account with this 'Detail/Type' dropbox. But in quickbooks online this is not allowed

Hi Gregor,

Thank you for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community. It is important to set up the right accounts and detail types can help you create accounts that fit what you want to track. To add a new account, you can follow the steps below:

Step 1: Go to Settings ⚙ and select Chart of Accounts.

Step 2: Select New to create a new account.

Step 3: In the Account Type ▼ dropdown, choose an account type.

Step 4: In the Detail Type, select the detail type that best fits the transactions you want to track.

Step 5: Give your new account a name.

Step 6: Add a description

Step 7: If this is a sub-account of an existing account, select Is sub-account and then enter the parent account.

Choose when you want to start tracking your finances. In the Balance field, enter the amount in the account, and determine the as of date. Enter today's date if you want to start tracking immediately.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out here. We are here to help you achieve your QuickBooks goals.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.  I do know how to add an account.  I'm asking what 'Detail/Type' I should put in for purchasing training courses.  None of the existing Detail/Type seem to match.

Thanks,

Gregor

Hi gregor-brandt-qb,

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community. I know that you want to make sure that all your accounts are set up correctly. I can point you in the right direction.

In a case like this, you should consult your accountant. We can help you with the technical aspect of setting the account up. Your accountant is an expert in their field and can advise you on the accounting portion and the best choice with new accounts. If you don't have an accountant you use, you can find one through this link: Find an Accountant.

If you have any other questions, reach back out. I'm here to help. Have a fantastic evening!
