Payroll and Excel

Hi,

We are looking at getting a new time clock, however, this does not directly get imported in to QB like our last time clock.

We only have the option of exporting as an excel file and importing into Quickbooks.

Can this be done? If so, how?

Welcome to Community! Having the ability to import your payroll data in QuickBooks Desktop would be a valuable time saver. I'd be happy to provide some insight here!

QuickBooks enables you to import specific lists and transactions multiple ways. It's important to note this cannot be undone, so it's always recommended to create a backup file. To learn more about the file types and areas that can be imported, follow this link.

You can prepare Time Tracking data with the following template

Name	Transaction Date	Customer	Service Item	Payroll item	Duration	Class	Billable	Notes
John Marks	01/09/2020	Nguyen, Tuan	Labor	Regular Pay	1:25
John Smith	02/09/2020	Nguyen, Tuan	Labor	Regular Pay	2:00
Karen Marks	02/09/2020	Links, John	Labor	Regular Pay	1:25
Kathy Linklater	02/09/2020	Links, John	Labor	Regular Pay	1:25
Johnny Deep	02/09/2020	Links, John	Labor	Regular Pay	2:00

then use an importer tool to proceed. It's a one time license.
