Hi @talbig
welcome to the community! it is great that you are using the community to get some assistance.
Quickbooks online is a great tool to help set your business for success. Unfortunately, you will need internet access to access Quickbooks online.

Consider using QB Desktop and deploy a private cloud. You may access your data offline and access it by internet.
Hello talbig,
I can see how having the flexibility to work online and offline would be great for moments where you might not have access to the internet but would still like to work in your QuickBooks account. I'd like to elaborate on what's been mentioned here to ensure you have all the information needed with making a decision of how to approach this situation and your QuickBooks Online.
Since QuickBooks Online is a cloud software, it relies on the internet to be able to pull your stored data and use the features in the software. As has been mentioned, it can't be used while offline because of that.
Some solutions you can consider are to make note of whatever work you need to do in QuickBooks Online and then enter it later once you have access to the internet again. Another option, which Fiat Lux mentioned, is considering QuickBooks Desktop instead. This version of the program is installed directly on your computer, and while it does have some internet-based features, it can be used without an internet connection.
There are some things to consider with this version of the software, however, such as how each user would need to have the program installed on their workstation or using cloud hosting to access it if you're in different locations. I'll start you off with some articles and pages of information to see if this would be a good fit for you.
Set up and install a multi-user network for QuickBooks Desktop
That should get you started, but don't hesitate if you have further questions about QuickBooks Desktop.
Should you have any interest in leaving feedback for QuickBooks Online, check out this article: How do I submit feedback? Taking the steps there forwards your comments to our product development team for consideration and is a great way to share your input about existing features and features you'd like to see. Take care and have a great day!
I am asking this question again in regards to a work around for offline, i.e. travel or downtime where there is no available access to the internet. The QuickBooks Desktop is going to be phased out this year and this will impact customers immensely.
Concerned, potential user only if there is a work around for online QuickBooks, to be used offline other than Excel.
Beware and pass it on!:
An Intuit QB support supervisor told me yesterday that they are phasing out ALL Desktop versions of QB, to try to funnel everyone to QB Online.
They told me they will allow NO more QB Desktop subscribers after Sept. 30, 2024, and that any current/active subscribers continuing past that date will have to pay $999 for their next annual renewal, and then a higher price (not yet announced how much) the following year, and then 2027 will be the last year they can use the super high priced offline version Desktop version.
Beware! And spread the warning to others!
