I recently updated to quickbooks desktop pro from a 2011 desktop premier quickbooks. With my old program I could format a csv file and then upload a list of transactions such as checks. I would select File, Utilities, Upload IIF file (and then when searching for the file I could select my csv file). Worked well everytime. Now, I can only search for IIF file...am I not able to upload my formatted csv file anymore?!
If I upgrade to Premier will I be able to upload from csv?
Losing this feature is killing me. Any help is appreciated. I have been searching and reading articles for days and cannot find a fix for this.
Hi there,
Congrats on the upgrade! It's important you're able to upload your formatted csv files and I'll be happy to steer you in the right direction.
IIFs are used to export or import QuickBooks Desktop data. You can import things like your bank transactions, accountant’s changes, general journal entries, and batch transactions. You can import lists like your customer and supplier lists.
You can export lists like your customers and suppliers, price levels set up on a percentage basis, and payroll data from Intuit payroll services. I'll list out the items you can import below:
To import data, follow these steps:

Thanks for your post, I have seen and tried this recommendation however I am trying to upload a list of cheques. In the past I have formatted a csv file with these headers:
!TRNS | TRNSTYPE | DATE | ACCNT | MEMO | NAME | AMOUNT | DOCNUM | ADDR1 | ADDR2 |
!SPL | TRNSTYPE | DATE | ACCNT | MEMO | NAME | AMOUNT | DOCNUM | INVITEM | |
!ENDTRNS |
Is this type of function still available? I do not want to import just a list but a series of checks. Is this function available in a different version of quickbooks in an improved manner?
Thanks,
Colleen
Since QBD 2019 is released, there are many unresolved technical issues with IIF feature. Consider having a 3rd party importer tool to help you.
