Hi
I have not filed through QB, but I have a refund from purchases that I created a GST receivable from. Now, when the refund hits my bank account, I cannot seem to offset the receivable. I get error messages - see below.
How do I record this? Thanks!
You have to create a journal entry first.
DR bank
CR GST receivable. (make sure that you select the account where the refund was posted before).
Select the date when you received the refund. Save and close.
When you go back to the bank feed, you will see the transaction there to match.
I have automatic banking and the point was it will not let me Cr. GST receivable.
I posted pictures of the errors for all to see.
Yes, this account do not let the use of bank feed. This is why you have to create a journal entry first.
Using QB online for the first time this year (So no previous year company data entered). How do I record HST refunds I received to my bank account this year for the previous year.
Thanks.
Hi there P-N,
It's important that all your tax transactions be entered correctly for your totals to be accurate. QuickBooks Online is a great tool able to help you keep track of taxes so you know the amount to file with the government. I can point you in the right direction for assistance entering this prior tax refund.
Since this refund is for a prior period, you may need to enter it as a journal entry. In order to know if this would be the right transaction type to use, and which accounts to affect in your chart of accounts, I recommend speaking to an accountant. They'll be able to guide you on how to enter this refund for the prior period so that your books can be accurate. You can invite your accountant to your books so they can see the transactions by going to the My accountant tab. There's also a Find a pro to help button in this section that can help you find a local accountant that has experience with QuickBooks Online.
