Hi there @JustinPatterson!
I love that you're using QuickBooks Self-Employed to track your business income and expenses. When you complete the Sales tax setup from the Taxes menu in QuickBooks Self-Employed, you'll notice that you aren't asked to specify a fiscal year start or end date, or filing frequency. QuickBooks Self-Employed is set up so that your tax year or fiscal year is the calendar tax year. You can switch between tax years in the Taxes section by using the dropdown menu.
Changing your fiscal year is a feature that's available in QuickBooks Online through the account settings. If this is something that's important to you, please check out our Plans & Pricing page to learn more about which version might be the best fit for your business. I'm also happy to provide you with more information or guide you in making a decision if you'd like to proceed. Just reply to this thread and I'll give you a hand.
I know that having the ability to change your fiscal year in QuickBooks Self-Employed would be useful, so I want to invite you to submit feedback on this to our product development team. Simply navigate to the Assistant in the upper right corner, type and enter "Feedback", and follow the prompts on screen to have your say. These suggestions are considered when implementing new features and making improvements to existing features.
I wish you all the best. Have a great weekend!
It's three years later - has QuickBooks finally added the ability to specify a fiscal year-end?
You seem to assume that "self-employed" is equivalent to "sole proprietorship". I am self-employed, in my limited company, and my fiscal year-end is not the same as the calendar year.
Hello Jenny. Thanks for your feedback. Since this feature isn't available yet, I recommend looking into QuickBooks Online as an alternative. You're also more than welcome to leave feedback about this to our engineers. In the meantime, feel free to ask other questions, I've got your back.
