Until recently, we were processing our credit cards right inside QB. Now this feature has been disabled and we have to use a web portal outside of QB.
For credit card security, QB required a password change every 90 days. Is there any way to delete all the existing credit card info and turn off the requirement to change the password every 90 days?
Hi there,
Thanks for posting your question here in the Community. I'd be happy to clear this up for you.
With Canadian QuickBooks Desktop accounts, credit card transactions have always had to be processed through a third-party portal. If you're using an American version of QuickBooks, please reach out to our US team here: QuickBooks Community US.
Credit card security procedures on Canadian accounts are in place for your protection. It's important that your financial information stays secure, which is why changing the password every 90 days is required. Removing credit card information won't change this security procedure.
If you'd like to remove the existing credit card information for your customer, you can do so by double clicking on the customer name, then select Payment Settings > Delete.
I hope this helps get you back on the right track.
If there's anything else I can help you with, feel free to reach back out.
Have a great day!
Thank you for your response AddieB, but you have been misinformed. We have been using the Canadian desktop version for a decade now and it was only last year that they took CC processing out of the application and made us use a 3rd-party portal. We used to enter all the data and payment info into QB and check the box for 'Process Credit Card When Saving'. It would then automatically process the CC. If that was a portal, it was built into QB and did not require anything additional to be done.
The only CC info we have in QB now is almost a decade of clients up to the point of the switch. I can't imagine manually deleting payment data from every individual client. And I hope no one suggests that the only alternative is to build a new file for a fresh start.
Thanks for reaching back out!
My mistake. Previously you were able to process credit card payments through QuickBooks Desktop, however this changed in October of 2018. Take a look at this helpful article that goes through changes to QuickBooks Desktop Merchant Services as of October 1st 2018.
In regards to removing the payment information for your customers, this will have to be done manually. I know you've got a lot of customers and deleting the payment information for each person individually can take time. You may decide to leave their payment information in the system, since it's password protected. However, I can certainly appreciate not wanting to have it on file.
I appreciate your feedback about the process to remove the credit card information from the system. I'll certainly be passing this along to my team.
