I have automatic mileage turned on  on my phone app but how do I manually enter mileage from January to April before I started using Quick books.  Tried to manually enter but it won't let me get past the to address field.

Hello tesscom,

I hope you're enjoying QuickBooks Self-Employed so far and the ease of having the automatic mileage turned on. Luckily, you can also manually enter mileage as needed to make sure you have all the ground covered.

Read Manually add mileage in the mobile app to learn how to do this on your phone. If you'd like to do it while logged into a browser, the steps are similar. Follow along as they're outlined below.

  1. Click Trips from the left-hand menu.
  2. Click the Add trip button (Tip: The down arrow gives you more options, such as setting up a vehicle and importing data from MileIQ and Google).
  3. Enter the date, location, purpose, and kilometres.
  4. Hit Save

It's as simple as that. Do this for the trips you need to enter and you'll be good to go. If you're having trouble with it, feel free to get in touch with QuickBooks Self-Employed's dedicated support agents through the Help feature in the app or by filling out the contact form on our Contact Us page.

I hope that helps!

Mileage

How do you export your detailed mileage log for the year? When I go to the detailed listing for last year there is an icon to email the report, but when I click through it does nothing when I try to email the report. Is this just a bug with the site or can your not export the detailed mileage log?

Mileage

Hi there yenita,

Great question. I'll do what I can to help you get your mileage information. I know it can be useful to keep track of it outside of the program and have it for your records.

When visiting the Trips tab when logged in via browser, there's the option to email the listed trips, as you've described. It may take a few minutes for the email to come through, but when it does, it includes an Excel file with a breakdown of your trips. The columns include Date, Type, Trip Purpose, Vehicle, Start Address, End Address, Distance, Deduction, and Logging Method.

If you're not seeing that email, I recommend starting by double-checking the spelling of the email you typed in. I know sometimes my fast fingers can make for spelling mistakes. It happens!

Another troubleshooting step is to clear your browser's cache and cookies. Take a look at the How do I clear my browser cache and temporary Internet files? to learn how.

In the app, follow these steps to send the log to yourself. It'll have the exact same file.

  1. Click the small Gear icon at the top left.
  2. Choose Settings from the menu.
  3. Go to Reports.
  4. Pick Mileage log.
  5. Confirm the Time Frame, Type, and Email.
  6. Click Send.

To do more troubleshooting, please get in touch with the dedicated QuickBooks Self-Employed team using the same Contact Us link I left for tesscom above. They'll be able to help you get back on track.

Best of luck!

Mileage

Hi Laura,

I am also having the same problem. When I click on Miles on the left hand tab, nothing loads up. Whereas, other tabs, such as invoices load up just fine.

If I click on Reports, select the time frame of mileage and download the report, I am left with an empty excel file. If I send an email, there is no attachment. This is pretty dreadful, I'm not one to complain or write a rubbish review unnecessarily. I have tried using different web browsers, Chrome being my chosen option which I know QuickBooks supports. I have also tried clearing my browsers cache etc.

I also know this mileage has been tracked, because there are 100's of saved journeys on the mobile app which I complete each day.

Please HELP!

Thanks,

Matt

Mileage

Hello Ewing94,

Thanks for joining in. You've done a great job with troubleshooting so far, and I want to make sure you have the information you need to resolve this issue with the mileage section of QuickBooks Self-Employed.

You're right, Chrome is one of the supported browser for QuickBooks' cloud access points, including Self-Employed. That being said, Chrome can still run into issues such as the one you're describing. In these situations, it's best to confirm that the version of Chrome you're using is up to date and to try another supported browser type if the issue persists. This helps us determine whether there's something in the browser tripping up the process or if it's something our engineering team should be taking a look at.

Start off by reviewing the following article, which goes over the things you should know about browser and your system when using QuickBooks' cloud softwares: System requirements for QuickBooks Online, Accountant, and QuickBooks Self-Employed

To get further help with this situation, I recommend reaching out to QuickBooks Self-Employed support directly by following these steps.

  1. Select Assistant.
  2. Type and enter "talk to human."
  3. Follow the prompts to speak with an agent directly.

The agent will be able to collect all the details and let you know what the next steps are for resolving this and getting you back on track with your mileage.

Take care!
