Quickbooks downloaded incorrect bank data

In my dashboard, QBO is showing a bank balance that is the negative of my actual balance.  In my bank website it shows $X.XX dollars but in QBO under "Bank Balance" is shows negative: -$X.XX dollars.

The Quickbooks balance is exactly right and matches the bank balance - but it's positive, while the Bank Balance is negative.

How can I get QBO to read the real balance?

The auto-help bot only tells me to disconnect the bank account and connect it again, but I have no faith in that solution and imagine it could cause more problems of duplicating transactions without fixing the glitch.  What happens if I do that?

Sometimes I've found that undoing posted transactions and then posting them again gooses QBO to snap out of certain balance glitches, but it didn't work this time.

I think this was caused by using the iOS App to update my bank transactions, which is always a mistake as it always does unpredictable and wrong things when I do that.  The App really doesn't stay in sync with the web version, I should delete it and save problems.  But the web browser version always pops up a warning at me to not zoom in, as if this is not allowed lol, even though the text is quite small.

Long story short: using the iOS App of QBO is a likely culprit for having messed up my bank feed.

I would go into bank feeds, select all the transactions for the effected time frame, and exclude them (if you have already categorized some, then undo those, and exclude them too). Using a browser and not the phone app, reconnect the bank account, and select the start date you need.

If you are still getting negative numbers, then it may be your bank has changed something. You can always download the CSV file from your bank instead, and upload that to quickbooks - that way you can map out the columns and choose positive or negative amounts etc.

Last thought would be to check the account that you are mapping your deposits to - make sure it is an income type account (or AR) and not an expense or COGS account.

Hey there - thanks, but:  there aren't any negative or wrong numbers in Quickbooks, other than the Bank Balance.  So the affected timeframe is just right now.  I tried undo-ing a few transactions and then posting them again, and the Bank Balance ended up the same.  This is not the same as the actual bank balance in the bank website.

Changing anything in QBO has no effect on what it sees as the Bank Balance.  And note that when I use small letters, bank balance, I'm referring to the real number on the bank website. With capital letters I mean what QBO calls the "Bank Balance."

Right now my best bet is to wait for another transaction to post in my account, and sync again, hoping the QBO ingest wil snap out of its miasma.

I see, so none of the transactions are negative, just the balance? If you look at the bank account history from the Chart of Accounts - you should be able to spot the moment the balance went to a negative amount. If the negative amount doesn't show in the account history, then maybe it is just a display glitch of the dashboard? QBO support would likely have you try clearing your browser cache, signing out and signing back in, or try an incognito window. If none of those things work, and it doesn't reset, you should report it to Intuit - could be a weird glitch with the new interface that locked in over the weekend.
