accessing data file

I am trying to access my data file on another computer than I usually do.  I copied the data files and the related QBW.searchindex directory onto a portable drive and then copied these onto the harddrive of the computer.  I am unable to open the file.  It just keeps spinning.  I have tried using the Quickbooks Tool Hub  (both the "quickbooks file doctor" and "quick fix my program" and "quickbooks program diagnostic tool") and have had no success.  I have also used the desktop file doctor and got nowhere.  I then copied the portable backup file off the portable drive onto the local hard drive and tried to restore it.  I am told that it is not a valid portable backup file.  I tried an older portable backup and got the same message.  I have wasted a full day trying to get this working.  Please help!

accessing data file

Hello again albertenterprises,

I hope you enjoyed your weekend. I'll do what I can to help you with accessing your company files that you're moving from one computer to another so you can get to work.

My recommendation in this case is to try a different file type rather than the portable file. For instance, you could simply try to move the company file, or a copy of it, to the portable drive, then to the other computer. From there, try to open the company file on the other computer.

If that works, great! You may just need to stick with that file type. If it's still giving your trouble, contact QuickBooks Desktop support so an agent can troubleshoot with you to figure out what's going on. I gave you this information before, but in case you need it again, here's how to reach us: Intuit QuickBooks Desktop software support policies

Have a great week. :)

I guess I wasn't clear enough.  I transferred the data files and related directories to the hard drive.  They would not open (it got hung up).  The two portable backups that I have would not open either.  The message I got was that they were invalid.  I have no other files that I can try.

I appreciate the clarification. Something that could be affecting how QuickBooks Desktop is behaving is the .net framework that your system is operating on. If you're using a 4.8 .net framework, that could be what's causing some of the hangups with the program and its files as QuickBooks doesn't currently work on it. In these instances, I recommend contacting an IT professional or Microsoft support to see about uninstalling the 4.8 .net framework and replacing it with a lower version.

Otherwise, your best bet is to reach out to QuickBooks Desktop support using the information I shared above. With tools like a screen share session, agents are able to see what you're seeing to work with you to resolve issues.
