Hello mykayla0721,
I love that you've chosen QuickBooks Self-Employed to manage your books. It's a great and easy-to-use version of the QuickBooks software that gives you the tools for simple bookkeeping. I'm happy to go over this with you.
As the most simplified version of QuickBooks, the Self-Employed version focuses on invoices, expenses, sales tax tracking, and mileage tracking. In light of that, more traditional bookkeeping practices like closing out the books for a prior year is not available. Rather, you can simply continue to work in the program.
If you're looking for a more in-depth approach to your bookkeeping, I encourage you to consider QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop instead. You can learn more about each of those versions of the software from our All QuickBooks Products page.
To make the switch to QuickBooks Online, take a look at the following article to learn the options: Switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online. If you choose to go with QuickBooks Desktop instead, it'll mean starting fresh in your books as there isn't a way to transfer Self-Employed data to that platform.
Give me a shout if you have more questions about that.
How do I close Year End in Quickbooks? Can I enter information in the new year before I close the previous Year.
Hi Q2electric01.
Closing your books is a great way to prevent changes from happening and keeping your books accurate. I'd be happy to go over how to close your books in QuickBooks.
As stated by my colleague closing your books for year end is not a feature that is available for QuickBooks Self Employed. If this is a feature that you wish to have you'd need to switch to either QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop. You can learn more about each of those versions of the software from our All QuickBooks Products page.
If you wish to switch to QuickBooks Online you can follow the steps in this article: Switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online.
If you choose to go with QuickBooks Desktop instead, you'll need to start fresh as there isn't a way to transfer Self-Employed data to that platform.
