Moving the company file to a new server

Hi

I have a client using QuickBooks Enterprise 2021 in a small office environment (approx 6 users). Their Windows server was configured to host the company file until a few months ago when it had a severe hardware failure. I recovered the company file from backup and configured a Windows 10 PC to host the company file on an interim basis until we could get a new server in place. It's been running fine that way. The new server (Server 2019) is now up and running on the network and I'm ready to move the company file over, but I want to test things out first before going live. Just wondering if there's any issue with having 2 machines on the network with the QB Database Manager running in tandem on them - in other words, one on the current Win10 PC, and one on the Windows Server. My guess is that it's fine to do that, as long as it's very clear to the users that the company file on the new server is for testing purposes only (so we can make sure the company file can be accessed simultaneously in multi-user mode). I just want to be sure there wouldn't be any conflicts by doing that. By "conflict", I mean like there would be if you had 2 DHCP servers running at the same time on a network, as an example. Pretty sure it wouldn't be a problem, but I don't want to do anything that would disrupt access to the live company file on the the Win10 PC while we're testing access to the company file on the Server.

Yes you can do that but I would recommend only assigning 2 computers to access the server to make sure it works.

It's important that your QuickBooks Desktop be properly installed on your server to effectively use it to manage your company's books. It's a great program able to helps you keep track of sales and expenses in order to see your company's profitability. I can point you in the right direction for assistance.

For information on if having two Database manager programs on the same network can have an effect on accessing the files, and running QuickBooks Desktop on your server, I recommend reaching out to the QuickBooks Dekstop support team. They'll be able to provide information on possible scenarios using these two server managers can have and provide assistance in finishing up the setup. You can reach them using the methods offered in the QuickBooks Desktop software support policies.
