I have several projects for one client and we would like to assign project numbers as well as the name of the project. The project numbers need to be sequenced for all projects and not just the single client. Has anyone done this before? I added in Project Number into the expense field but there is not a place to add it into a project itself. Any ideas?

Thanks Trish. I would highly recommend it as part of project tracking with QB to marry with additional proj. management software it would be very helpful. Helps us PMs keep everything aligned.
Hi BGD,
Thanks for reaching out to us here. QuickBooks Online Projects feature is a dynamic way to track your profitability. However, there currently isn't a way to automatically assign numbers. I'd be happy to provide another option for numbering your projects!
As a workaround, I suggest entering a Product Number at the front of the Project Name. This will help to organize your jobs efficiently. If you'd like to see this option added in feature updates, please feel free to submit a suggestion to our Development Team. Recommendations are greatly appreciated to assist with improving your overall customer experience with QuickBooks Online.

I have a work around that I have found very useful.
When you make a project, open an estimate right away that will correspond to the project. Use the estimate number to identify individual projects. I also add the year and a short description. The short description also really helps my crew know what project they should be billing their time against.
Example:
Customer Name - xxxx.24 - Short Description
All the best!
