Brickbat... So I just got the annual May price increase email from Intuit for our subscription to QB Desktop. This time the monthly fee is jumping from $47 + tax to $70+ tax; a 49% increase (+tax increase).
What kind of legitimate, well run business just dumps that kind of price increase on their customers? Ripoff...
I have been a QB user since 2006 and have seen all kinds of price changes, and structure changes, and other fee raising models, but this one is almost as bad as the ridiculous switch to charging a per/employee fee to the payroll module (on top of its subscription fee).
I will never, ever recommend QB to any of my small biz colleagues, clients, or to any of our local chamber of commerce group members because of the way the pricing is managed and communicated.

@DW - Training Solutions Group
If you don't need to run any add-ons, switch to old QB Desktop with a non subscription license.
I just received the same notification for the price increase from $47 to $70, a 49% increase. I agree with DW - this is a ripoff. I've also been tracking the increases for the last three years for combined Desktop Pro/Payroll/Employee:
2022->2023: 16.4%
2023->2023 (two months): 4.7%
2023->2024: 13.5%
2024->2025: 49%
In 2023 they added a fee for each employee ($2) and then doubled this in 2024. Overall, my subscription has increased by 38% since 2022, far ahead of inflation. An now a 49% increase. I've been getting the same message each time to justify the increases "The price above reflects the value the product provides and takes into account other offerings that are comparable in the marketplace.
Price changes enable us to constantly reinvest in our ecosystem of products and services that help you take charge of your finances, understand your money - and manage your whole business."
I don't see any significant improvements year to year to justify these increases. I'm cancelling my subscription before the increase comes into effect. This is ridiculous.

Then you can use the trial version to access your historical data for good.
100% agree. What a shameful company they are. The amount their prices have increased in the last 5 years is staggering. What other options do we have. I'd love to drop these assholes.
If you don't need to run any add-ons, switch to old QB Desktop with a non subscription license.
>>>We're committed to supporting small businesses like yours, REALLY? HOW?
>>>dedication is demonstrated through our ongoing efforts to introduce new products NOTHING THAT IS ESSENTIAL TO MY BUSINESS
>>>provide you with the highest quality offerings SINCE THE LATEST UPDATES THE PROGRAM CRASHES CONSTANTLY
>>>These adjustments allow us to maintain and enhance our products and services,
It was already announced that the Desktop program is not available anymore to new customers. So this entire response was nothing but hot air.

What announcement do you mean? You can still purchase a new QB Desktop Enterprise license. You can also use old QB Desktop with a non subscription license.
Agree 100%. We track all vendor costs, including Quickbooks and have experienced a whopping 75% increase over the past 3 years, including a ruthless 47.42% increase for our 2025-26 annual fee. The renewal notification we received from Intuit in March provided an "estimated renewal amount" and, of course, the final amount actually charged to us was about $100 more than the estimate - and was never communicated to us in advance. If we ran our business in this manner we would quickly be out of business. We only need basic capabilities that work reliably to effectively run our business. All other features / capabilities of Quickbooks generate zero incremental value to our business. I used to be a vocal advocate for Quickbooks but this latest price increase has me singing a much different tune to whomever will listen.
QB pricing is ridiculous. Here is what I have experienced:
2021: $200
2022: $350
2023: $550
2024: $650
2025: $1000
That is a 500% increase in 4 years and 54% increase from 2024 to 2025. I have been using Quickbooks for about 15 years and there have been no noticeable improvements or upgrades in all of those years despite keeping my program up to date. Customer service has always been slow, unhelpful, and generally terrible.
I am a sole proprietor for a small hobby business with no employees and the cost of Quickbooks is close to my annual revenue.
I too am canceling my subscription.
I tried looking for a non-subscription based desktop program and as far as I can tell, Intuit no longer offers that.

I'm not sure what is meant by "addons" but if I have another client running Pro 2020, can I upload a portable file and abandon the ripoff renewal at $1000.00!!?? I know it is no longer supported but it still hums right along.
How exactly do you do that? Is there a specific version of QB Desktop that works without a subscription license?
Presumably there's a file-format conversion needed as well, since every year the company file gets updated to the latest version.
My reply was attached to the wrong message... I was trying to reply to the "If you don't need to run any add-ons, switch to QB Desktop with a non subscription license." message.

The price increase is insane. Just gobble goop from the support staff. there is nothing that supports the price hike. Not even free support like other companies. Interfaces buggy a lot of the time. Mail client buggy. Emailing excel reports buggy. Strip interface sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't this month Payroll left off the payroll taxes. How much fun is that to fix!!.

Can you explain why you switched to a yearly subscription in the first place. We pay a lot of money for your products. Last year you charged me, single user QBDT Mac $687.34, this year $1,058.94!!! Again, for a single user. You truly are price gouging and unless something changes, this will be my FINAL year.
You are using QB Desktop for Mac and your company is located in the US, correct? You can consider to pay the renewal fee through a reseller and get $200 cashback. Another option, switch to old QB Desktop with a non subscription license if you don't need to run any add-ons.
This is an utterly pathetic money grab. What a shameless company.
They state that some magical "new features" somehow justify a 50% increase but then won't elaborate on what those features might be. They just talk to you like you're a moron who won't be able to notice they didn't do anything except basically say they want more money for the same service.
Pathetic money grab, form a company with a well established reputation of having absolutely abysmal customer service... the very least they could do is ACTUALLY IMPROVE.
I am absolutely disgusted by this, and now actively looking elsewhere for a solution. I cannot in good faith continue supporting such a shameless and unethical company.
