What's the easiest way to import all data from my existing QuickBooks Self Employed account?

Hello cad_ai,

Thanks for reaching out! I know it's essential to find the best program for your company's needs and based on your question and product tag, it seems you're looking to switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online. I can help.

Although both are QuickBooks products, the Self-Employed and Online platforms are independent from one another and don't connect to or transfer data between each other. Don't worry, there's still some information that you can take from your QuickBooks Self-Employed account into your QuickBooks Online account. I've got an article here that goes over this in more detail: Switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online

I'm available if you have further questions. Don't be afraid to get back in touch.

What's the easiest way to import all data from my existing QuickBooks Self Employed account?

Hi LauraAB,

This method doesn't seem to work for importing receipts or mileage logs. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

What's the easiest way to import all data from my existing QuickBooks Self Employed account?

Hello cad_ai,

Welcome back. I'm happy to clarify the process of moving from Quickbooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online.

As I mentioned in my initial response, Self-Employed and Online are two independent QuickBooks versions, so it's only certain data that you'll be able to move. You'll notice that the article I linked focuses on the bank feed data as being what you can move to the Online platform. That's because both use similar bank feed features. The other things it mentions exporting, such as reports, are for your files and records.

Receipts and mileage logs are not among the things that can be exported from Self-Employed to be imported into QuickBooks Online at this time. In order to make sure you've got that data in QuickBooks Online, I recommend manually entering the transactions and information you need. You'll notice that QuickBooks Online's mileage tracking feature works very much the same as QuickBooks Self-Employed's! Here's an article that goes over importing into Online: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online

The community is a great resource for finding information about how to get started with setting up your books, including entering details such as opening balances. What's the easiest way to import all data from my existing QuickBooks Self Employed account?

Hi I have been on the phone with QB online for several hours but we have not been able to find how to upload the files from SE to Online. Online was able to see my screen so he told me what to write to QB SE but they weren't able to help at all. Online had me email him the files from SE so he could convert them but then couldn't find any option to import them into online.

Can you please help
