Hello community,
Last year I found a copy of QB 2013 that my brother purchased for me in the US way back. I never got around to using it till one day last year I installed it because I was starting a new business and my old copy of QB 2006 didn't cut it any more. Everything was peachy till I sent the bookkeeper a copy of my company file and was surprised to learn of a certain incompatibility between US and Canadian versions. Is this true? I purchased a Pro copy of the 2021 Canadian edition last week and would like to be able to use (restore) the data I already have in the 2013 US edition. Is there any way to do this? It would be a colossal pain to have to redo a year's worth of work again.
Thanking you all in advance,
Carlos
You may have 2 ways:
1. Utilize a migration tool to create a new company file

2. Purchase a 3rd party service to switch the country version of the company file.

Hi CarlosF1288.
Being able to open your company file in a new version of QuickBooks is a great idea to help you save time and effort. I'd be happy to go over the restrictions between the Canadian version and the American version.
As the two versions of QuickBooks are different in the features they allow and the way they are created you're not able to open an American version company file in the Canadian version. But that doesn't mean you cant move some of your information over however. You can export your information to Excel and import it into a new company file made using the QuickBooks Desktop 2021 that you purchased. You can export and import your information by following the steps in this article.
Another option is looking for a third party app that can export this information for you. You can access our third party apps page to look for one that suits your needs but make sure it would work with your version of QuickBooks also.
