Hello Vish4747,

I love that you're using the assembly item feature available in QuickBooks Desktop and it's equally awesome to see that you've chosen the Enterprise edition of the software to manage your books. Both of these are great options for staying on top of inventory and I can appreciate the use of reviewing the bill of materials for the active assembly items. I can help you with this.

The way to view the bill of materials for an assembly items takes a few steps, but they're fairly simple once you know them. Here's what you can do.

  1. Select Lists.
  2. Choose Item List.
  3. Double-click the assembly item.
  4. Click Print.

Depending on what you choose in the print window, you'll be left with a printed copy of the bill of materials for that particular assembly item or, if you have it, you can use the Print to PDF option to get a PDF copy of the information.

At this time, there isn't a report that shows these details, nor is there a way to print for more than one assembly item at a time. This means going into each of the active items and following those steps as needed.

If you have a lot of assembly items, I know this could take up extra time in your workday. I recommend sharing your feedback with our product development team by going to the QuickBooks Desktop Help menu and then choosing Send Feedback Online. This process lets that team know what users are looking for when it comes to using the program and many suggestions made in the past have become features in the program today.

Your voice matters to us, so don't be afraid to share you feedback. I'm also here if you have further questions about the option that is available.

Have a great day!

Thanks LauraAB

PDF will not work for me either. I need this in excel so that I can play with figures to modify, re-compute and/or check cost sensitivities.

I will send a request via "feedback online" for future development.

In the print dialog box, I select "File" instead of "Printer".  Save it as a .csv file and Excel will open it for you...

You have got to be kidding, There used to be a report that listed each assembly and below it all of the ingredients. Or was that in Sage, I switched to quick at 1/1/2016 and can't remember now.

This is an important feature, I can't believe you don't have it.

I understand your frustration.  I worked with QBs for years and then used a different accounting software, took a break from work, and now I'm back using QBs.  There are so many features, reports, and functionality I miss from the other software.  And that software company is a tiny little company compared to QBs.
