Fields of exported reports are all text and must be converted for the calculated fields to function correctly

Hi community,

When I try to export a report such as Profit & Losses, the "Total" fields are 0s and a manual procedure must be done to fix it. In short all the fields are text and must be converted to numbers, and then to numbers again by pressing Ctrl + 1, and lastly I need to remove the space in the thousands (10 000) and finally the calculated fields show the right numbers.

A colleague does the same export, and her fields come out right.
I've tried a sample company file and the same behaviour occurs.
I've tried validating the data and rebuilding the company file with no success.

Is there anything that can be done?

Thank you

Hi microrama,

Great job finding and trying out those troubleshooting steps to get your information moved over to Excel. I can help go over exporting your reports to Excel.

Being able to export your information to Excel is just one of the features QuickBooks Desktop has to help save you time in gathering your data. When exporting reports to Excel QuickBooks Desktop sends the information over to Excel that makes an Excel workbook with the information from that report. You can follow the steps in this article to make sure you are exporting reports in QuickBooks Desktop using the correct options. If you are still having issues with the export then there are some more troubleshooting options you can do such as making sure you are using a supported version of microsoft office or excel. You can follow the steps to troubleshoot excel issues in this link here.

Have a great day!

Fields of exported reports are all text and must be converted for the calculated fields to function correctly

Hi Nick,

Thanks a lot for the help.

I followed the exporting to excel procedure of the first article, and I can confirm that I am exporting correctly and with the same advanced settings included in the screencapture of the article.

For the second article:
Quickbooks is updated
I use Office 365 and Windows 10, all updated to their latest version
Tried a quick repair of Office 365
Reinstalled Office 365
Deactivated UAC
Uninstalled and reinstalled Quickbooks, then updated it to it's latest version

As mentionned, the problem is just that the data fields are exported as text instead of numbers, and must be converted manually. (which becomes a long process)

Would there be anything else to try?

Thank you

Hi again,

Great job trying the steps in the articles that were included. Allow me to explain a bit more since the issue is still going on.

If the issue is still happening then it wouldn't be on QuickBooks Desktop end. Doing a bit of research on the error you are getting it seems to be a known issue with Microsoft Excel. I'd suggest getting in touch with Microsoft to troubleshoot the problem further.

Have a great night
