The P&L generated by QB on-line does not provide the EBITDA .... Is there a special report or function to enable me to prepare a P&L showing the EBITDA ?

Hello,

I know how important it is to be able to view important financial information related to your business. QuickBooks Online comes stocked with tons of different reports that you can use to get a better picture of your business health. I'll explain how to find your earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA).

To calculate EBITDA, start by reviewing a company’s Profit & Loss report. To find the Profit & Loss report, click the Reports tab on the left navigation menu.

EBITDA is not included as a line item on the Profit & Loss, but you can calculate it easily by using other items reported on every income statement.

The formula for EBITDA is:

EBITDA = EBIT + Depreciation + Amortization

Another easy way to calculate EBITDA is to start with a company's net income, and then add back interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.

Here's how that formula looks:

EBITDA = Net Income + Interest + Taxes + Depreciation + Amortization

Here's a really helpful article that shows you a few examples of these methods: Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA).

I'd also suggest consulting with your accountant to get the best possible advice. If you're not yet connected to an accountant, you can find one in your area by clicking here: Find an Accountant.

Cheers.

I need to have EBITDA on my reports.  I know how to calculate it but want QBO to give me the option to have things above the line and below the EBITDA line.  Is there functionality in QBO to do that?   Or at least give me a Net Operating Income subtotal before the other expenses are taken out.

Hi there. Glad to have you chime in on this thread. The function you've described isn't available. I can see the benefit of having this function and I encourage you to send feedback about this to our engineers. You can send feedback by clicking on the Gear icon and looking for Feedback. New product ideas and improvements are based on the feedback we get from users like you. I also recommend looking into third-party apps on our app store using this link

Otherwise, let me know if you have other questions by leaving a comment below. I'll be one message away.
