I don't know how to make a work order...
some service industries typically follow a particular flow (in this case I'm referencing general contracting):
Create ESTIMATE for prospective client --> prospective client accepts estimate --> WORK ORDER generated --> work completed --> INVOICE sent to client --> get paid --> produce RECIEPT
The program is clearly missing a critical function. You have customers who have been begging for the function for the better part of 3 years... And before someone suggests it... No "delayed charge" is not a proper work around. No I will not integrate Jobber or some of the other incredibly pricey app. After a monthly fee for QBO I'm not forking over more money for an integrated app when the one I'm paying for already isn't cheap and SHOULD BE DOING IT.
Stand up a scrum team and start implementing some of the most basic yet critical functions your customers have been begging for for years.
We have yet to find the same feature in other competitors. We have to utilize an additional app to do so. Although QB Desktop doesn't include a built-in work-order form for this purpose, the Premier and Enterprise Solutions versions allow you to modify a sales order form into a work order form. QuickBooks tracks the work orders just as it does regular sales orders, linking the orders to specific customers and invoices.
Hi there Staudinger,
I can see how important having the option to create a work order in QuickBooks Online is for you since you've also come across and commented on another thread about it. I hear what you're saying about how there have been a wide variety of users asking for this feature and how the solutions suggested don't fit your needs or budget.
As has been discussed on that thread and suggested to you by my colleague, leaving feedback about this yourself is the way to go to share your thoughts. While the Community forum is a great place to ask questions and share ideas, our product development team is forwarded the comments from the feedback feature which they can read and consider for future updates. I don't have information on when or if a requested feature might be implemented, but it's the best course of action to make your request.
If you'd like, you can bookmark our QuickBooks Online Feature and Product Updates page to keep in the know of what's added to the program. I know it's vital that you have a program that's meeting your business needs, and I encourage you to evaluate and explore to make sure you have the right accounting software for you.
I know this isn't the response you're hoping for with this. I'll also be around if you have further questions or concerns.
Hello all.
Has there been an update to this issue? Work orders are an integral part of most service businesses and I would hate to have to find another product that can do everything QBO does plus the appropriate work order function so I do not have to duplicate the same info into another product.
Regards
Imagine…
No there hasn’t.
I'm pretty close to switching to another platform that does the accounting, work orders and so many more features. QB is just looking to suck the cash from your pocket one app at a time
Purchase a 3rd party service to convert data from QBO to another cloud based accounting app.
only working for invoices and not estimates - select Sales - All sales - Select the range or type - Click on the blue arrow pointing down - select print packing slip
Print Packing Slip - BEST WORK AROUND YET
I too have a service based business and QB online is an outstanding tool for my estimating and invoicing I have been looking into 3rd party software for work order function. It seems like a simple feature on the tech side and it would truly be utilized my many no doubt. Please add this feature QB!
It is crucial for QuickBooks to provide an option to convert estimates into work orders, especially for service businesses. It is surprising that QBO does not currently offer this simple feature, as it creates difficulties and requires double entry into other programs or documents such as Word or PDF. By having the ability to convert or print a work order directly from an estimate, the need for unnecessary steps can be eliminated.
I am aware that packing slips can be printed from an invoice, and I believe that the work order option would not be significantly different. When an estimate is generated, having a work order is essential to ensure that the work has been successfully completed before converting the estimate into an invoice.
A 'print packing slip' is only good work around if you don't do progressive invoicing, as this feature can only be done on invoice and not the estimate. This creates a problem if you bill progressively, because it doesnot the show the full quanties and only the partial quantity you just invoiced.
Hey there!
QuickBooks Online (QBO) doesn’t have a built-in work order feature as part of the default tools, which can be frustrating when you’re trying to create a smooth workflow like the one you described for contracting. One alternative is to look into using Cleverence Warehouse 15, which integrates with QuickBooks to provide mobile support for operations like receiving, picking, and stock-taking with barcodes and RFID. You can track inventory, print and scan barcodes, and adjust items directly in QuickBooks. This might be a good solution if you're managing items and need real-time updates.
