How do you un-attach a project from a customer and re-attach it to a different customer?

I'm glad to hear you're taking advantage of the Projects feature in QuickBooks Online to accurately track the profitability of each project you setup. I know how important it's to have the right customer associated with your project. I'll be happy to guide you with this.

After creating and saving a project in the program, you have the flexibility to go back and edit the Project name, its Status, Due date, and to whom it's Assigned to. You won't be able to edit the customer linked to the project. To ensure you have the correct customer in the setup, you'll have to recreate your project and select that customer before saving. In case you need to delete the previous project, here's how.

1. Go to the Projects menu and locate your project.
2. Click on the Options dropdown under the Actions column.
3. Select Delete and confirm with Yes.

Hi again, bonniemac. Making sure you don't lose any data ensures accuracy across your books. If you have any transactions under a project that's currently linked to a wrong customer, you'd have to manually edit those transactions to change that project to the new one associated with the correct customer. Once you create the new project, it'll be available as an option under the Customer or Customer/Project dropdown in your sales and purchase forms as well as in your timesheets.

I hear you on this, bonniemac. At the moment, there isn't any option available to edit the customer linked to an existing project. Also, you have the flexibility to merge customers but those linked to projects can't be merged. I can see how having these features would have been handier for your business, and I encourage you to submit feedback directly to our engineers to share your thoughts on this.
