Hello,
Projects is a great tool you can use in QuickBooks Online to track job costs and keep everything organized in one place. You can run project-specific reports, and view all the transactions associated with the project conveniently and easily.
If you've assigned a customer to your project by mistake, you'll have to delete it and create a new one with the correct customer information. At this time, you're unable to change the customer once a project has been created.
To delete the current project, click the Projects tab from the left navigation menu. Then, click the drop-down arrow next to Options in the Action column on the right-hand side. Click Delete.
I recommend noting all the transactions or important information for the project before you delete it, so you can recreate it with the correct customer.
Here's more information about the Projects feature in QuickBooks Online: Projects FAQ.
I hope this helps get you back in working order. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
Have a great day!
@AddieC this advice may be all well and good, except for the fact that when you delete a project in Quickbooks the transactions within that project aren't deleted with it, so they stay on the books forever and are permanently unchangeable whether they are correct or not. You cannot even move these transactions to an active customer or project because the transactions cannot be edited while associated with a deleted project. Figure that asinine logic out! *shaking my head*
Hi there cjholowatyj,
I once again want to make sure you have the solution for managing the transactions related to your deleted Project. Check out my response on the following thread to see what I've come up with so you can make sure your books get back in order: How do I make a Project Inactive, without deleting it. Clicking that link takes you right to my response, so you don't have to scroll.
I'm here if you need me.
Hello - I was wondering whether the ability to change a client has been added. Our clients often have several projects on the go and then they create a custom company for a specific project so we need to have the ability to change the client after the creation of the project. This can be a few weeks after the start of the new project or after a year or two. All our staff timesheets are tied to the project as are all the expenses. The only change is the client name.
For example: XYZ Development Corp has 123 St Project, 345 St Project and 678 St Project and after the conceptual design phase (or after they actually purchase the land), they create a new company for the specific project so 123 St Project becomes owned by The Hall of Wonders Condos Inc. (or some random numbered company). From our point of view, it is only a client name.
Hello stephane5. Thanks for chiming in on this thread. Since the ability to change a client after the project creation is unavailable, I encourage you to send feedback about this to our engineers. You can do this by clicking the Gear icon and looking for Feedback. New product enhancements are based on the valuable feedback we get from users like you. In the meantime, feel free to ask other questions, I'm here to help.
