Hi there flowers-thegreen,

Keeping track of your daily sales is an important task. It ensures that you're accurately recording your income as well as tracking the taxes that you collect on sales. When you have a lot of daily sales, finding the best way to enter them may seem like a daunting task, but I can give you a hand with what you should do.

There are two straightforward ways to record your sales income in QuickBooks Online. The first is with an Invoice and Payment. This is typically reserved for situations where you're billing your client for something they may pay for later or in instalments, or when they intend to pay by cheque. The other option is to record a Sales Receipt. This is used most commonly for sales where the customer pays you on-the-spot by cash, credit card, or debit card.

In this case, I think a Sales Receipt is the most fitting way for you to record your daily sales. There are a number of ways you could organize these Sales Receipts to capture your income, so let me give you a few suggestions. Consulting with your accountant regarding the method you choose may be beneficial.

You could create a different Sales Receipt for every transaction you process each day, but since it sounds like you have a lot of daily transactions, I think this next suggestion will work best for you. You can create a Sales Receipt at the end of each day for each payment method you receive. You can choose to enter a line for each sale if you track inventory, or just enter a total amount for the daily sales for each payment method. For example, if you made $1000 in cash sales in one day, you can enter a Sales Receipt for $1000. You can enter the before tax amount, then add the sales tax code, or choose Inclusive of tax from the dropdown and just enter the after-tax amount.

As I mentioned previously, consulting with your accountant on the best method to take is an important step. You can even invite your accountant to give you a hand in QuickBooks by navigating to the My Accountant tab and using the invite field. You'll notice a Find a pro to help button on the page as well which is where you can go to find a QuickBooks-certified accountant in your area.
