How do I set up GST as a standalone tax code?

I have clients on a reserve in Ontario who only pay 5% GST, not the 8% PST. How do I do this?

How do I set up GST as a standalone tax code?

You can add new taxes on the Sales tax page in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Kendall.

Here's how to do it:

1. Navigate to Taxes and select Sales tax.

2. Click on Manage sales tax and then select Add tax.

3. Choose the type of tax you want to add.

4. Enter all the required information.

5. Click Add when you're finished.

After you complete this process, you'll see the new tax agency you created in the Tax agencies tab. It will also appear as an option in the Sales Tax column on your invoices.

For more information on using sales tax in QBO, feel free to browse this article: Set up and use sales tax in QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, you can run the Taxable Sales Summary report to get a detailed overview of the sales tax you owe and the reasons behind it. This will help you ensure everything is accurate before you file and pay your sales tax return.
