Hey malikzeen1,
Having customers throughout the country is a positive thing for businesses of all sizes, but it comes with special considerations for sales tax under the separate provincial agencies. QuickBooks Online is built to streamline sales tax tracking, so you can easily set up a different province with common default settings. I'll be happy to help you set this up.
Setting up taxes for an additional province is just a few easy steps:
This sets up the new tax code with the most common tracking settings. Check out this great article to learn more: How to set up a new sales tax code
If you're unsure how you should charge sales tax on your invoices between provinces, your accountant is the best person to help. They'll help you record taxes accurately to ensure your returns are all filed properly. You can easily invite your accountant as a user to approach this together. To search for a pro in your area, simply head to the My Accountant tab in QuickBooks Online then click on Find a pro to help.
Let me know how this goes!
i need to change the provience as alberta not BC
Hello Jeffhoughton,
I'd be happy to help you with making sure you have the correct sales tax codes set up in your books. Luckily, QuickBooks Online keeps these things as simple as possible, so getting set up with Alberta's sales tax codes is a quick process.
When you set up a sales tax code in QuickBooks Online, all it takes to set up a new code is following the steps that my colleague outlined above in his response to the thread. In the Taxes tab, you can manage your sales tax and add new codes as needed. To make sure you have the steps and the information again, you can also check out this article: How to set up a new sales tax code
If you mean to say that you'd like to remove the BC codes because you don't need them, I can help with that as well. Once a sales tax code has been added, there isn't a way to remove it entirely, but you can make it inactive so that you don't see it in the sales tax drop-down menus or in the taxes tab any longer. To do this, select Manage sales tax on the Taxes page, then select Make inactive beside the codes you don't need to use. This article gives the exact steps and shares how to reactivate the codes later if you need them in the future: How do I delete a sales tax code?
Let me know if you have further questions about either of those things. I'm here for you.
