In transactions, Quickbooks highlights "1 match found" for customers paying invoices, but the tax category is listed as "exempt". Which isn't correct. Do I match anyway?

You can match it anyway, grayshottinc.

 

Even if the downloaded transaction has a different code, QuickBooks Online will use the tax rate in the invoice or transaction that's in your register.

 

Your report would still be correct, as long as the amount is accurate.

 

Also, please note that QBO relies on the data that's shared with us by your bank. You'll want to reach out to them to check why the downloaded payment has a different tax code.
