Is there a French version of the GST/QST sales tax that will appear as TPS/TVQ on invoices to Quebec clients?

We attempted to add a custom tax with the French name, but it wouldn't break out the federal 5% and provincial 9.975% components on the bill.

Hi there,

Welcome to the Community. Recording your transactions the right way is a good method for keeping your books clean. Rest assured, I'll be happy to show you how to set up a custom tax rate in QuickBooks.

Based on what you've described, I encourage you to check out the following article that shows you how to: Add a custom sales tax rate for an existing sales tax agency. The article provides the necessary steps required for you to add the tax rates you've described to your account.

Feel free to ask other questions. I'll be a message away.

Is there a French version of the GST/QST sales tax that will appear as TPS/TVQ on invoices to Quebec clients?

Hello JamesM4,

I have attempted this solution and it looks like it still won't print as TPS/TVQ on customer invoices in French. Instead, what we are getting is invoices in French, with all titles and line items in French, but then the taxes section is in English. Sticks out like a sore thumb.

Any other suggestions? We have already set up Quickbooks and would prefer a solution that does not involve starting over and setting up our company entirely in French, especially since we still require GST/HST for our English-speaking customers.

Best regards,

Jacqueline

Hi userjacqueline,

When setting up your QuickBooks Online account, your sales taxes will be recorded according to the preferred language during the company set up process.  There is no option for changing this, once your account set up is complete.  If you would like to see additional options in future updates, please don't hesitate to submit a suggestion to our Development team.  Recommendations are greatly appreciated in assisting us with improving your overall customer experience in QuickBooks Online.

You can touch base with us at any time, if you have additional questions.  We are always glad to assist!

Let me share some important guidelines regarding the invoicing process for your clients based in Quebec, Hubair. Your approach may vary based on how frequently you process these invoices.

In the QuickBooks Online Canadian version, you can choose between two language settings: English and French. When you select one or the other, the entire program will display in that language, except for features that may have been configured in the other language.

If you occasionally invoice clients in Quebec and don’t have a regular invoicing cycle, you can create a custom sales tax by designating Quebec as the tax agency. This will enable you to apply the appropriate tax for invoices issued specifically to these clients.

If you invoice clients in Quebec every month, it’s important to switch the language of your invoices to French. This should align with the language used in your billing and company address to ensure consistency and compliance with local regulations or create a new account based in Quebec, it's advisable to set them up with the CA French language option right from the start. This proactive approach will help streamline your invoicing process and improve communication with your clients.

For more information on sending invoices in a different language in QuickBooks Online, refer to this article: Send your invoices in a different language in QuickBooks Online.

I now understand that you need to open your account in french right from the start.vor else your screwed in Quebec. When you first open it tho, nothing tells you that your tax rate will forever be in english and is unchangeable. Seems to me like quickbooks isnt quite ready to enter a bilingual market. There is no fix by adding sales tax, ive called support ive spent time. Theres no proper fix. Even if you make a new tax it wont be linked to revenue quebec like the real gst/qst and it wont identify the dual tax separately. Unfortunately for Quebec province, quickbooks hasnt adapted. I will probably either open a new account or change booking software at this point. *** Customer support has bin pretty tho.
