Why are expenses not showing up as matches on the banking page?

When I am working through all of my bank transactions and matching to expenses, I am rarely seeing the usual "1 record found" and MATCH button. Instead, I keep having to click into each transaction, choose "Find Match", and scroll to the correct one. I have confirmed the accounts are correct, and the amounts are exact matches, but for some reason I keep having to do this the long way. Why is this? Used to work pretty well.

Thanks. the 180 day limit must be the reason.

Why are expenses not showing up as matches on the banking page?

Hi sean40,

Thanks for joining us! I'm glad to hear you're using online banking in QuickBooks Online. It's a great feature that saves you time and makes it easier to categorize your transactions. The matching option in your bank feeds is an awesome tool to ensure you don't have any duplicates in your books. I'll be happy to share more on this.

Once you connect your bank or credit card accounts in QuickBooks Online, your recent transactions are automatically downloaded in the For Review section. In this tab, transactions from your bank/credit card account that are also present in QuickBooks can be matched to avoid duplicates. For the system to automatically present if it matched any records you’ve already entered in your books, the transactions in the For Review tab must be within 180 days old. After this range, the program becomes less efficient at showing you any records for a direct match using the Match button, and you'd have to go through the process of choosing the Find match option to select a match. Here's an article to review the process: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online

If the transactions you're trying to match in the For Review tab are older than 180 days, that could explain why the system is unable to show the Match button despite you having corresponding dates, accounts, and amounts for both transactions. In case your transactions in the For Review tab are within 180 days and you're not seeing the Match button, it could be due to a browser issue. Temporary internet files that accumulate in your browser can sometimes cause bugs in the software. To ensure your app or browser is running the program as designed, I recommend following the troubleshooting steps in this article: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online

Why are expenses not showing up as matches on the banking page?

I have just solved exactly the same problem!

Previously, when I was reconciling, every match was being spotted and then, all of a sudden, it stopped working.  Then it came back and I didn't know why, followed by another disappearance, which brought me to this thread.

The statement about the 180 day rule made me question the response, because I knew that every single one of the transactions which I had been reconciling was over 180 days old, as I am well behind on my accounts, so that can't have been the issue.

I had a think about what I was doing differently now and realised that, now that I was getting used to Quickbooks Online, having changed from the desktop version, I had stopped using the date filter on the banking report - simply because, everytime you click away from it to go to another page, the filter disappears and you have to start again with it, which is a nuisance.

So, I went back into the banking, selected the date filter for the month which I was reonciling and bingo - the matching facility was back!

=== This answer is the actual solution to the problem. ===

Understanding the workings of the software better than the support staff answering questions. Nice.
