adding TAX ITEM to General Journal Entry Import File (IIF)

Keeping track of your taxes is an important task. It's vital you're able to add the taxes to your journal entries. I'll be happy to share more information that'll help get you on track with managing your business. 

QuickBooks Desktop is a robust program which makes it simple to manage your transactions. Usually, the option to edit info and add taxes is found when mapping your transactions. If that option isn't present when mapping, you'd have to continue manually adding the taxes.

I just talked to Quickbooks support and specifying  "TAX ITEM" in the IIF file for general journal entries is not possible. 

I guess people are all entering general journal entries one at a time manually.

I assume this also means there is no 3rd party tool that can handle HST Input tax credit for general journal entries.  It is surprising that this feature is not high up on their list.

Please let me know if anyone personally experienced a tool that can support HST ITC.

I have submitted feedback online specifically for the issue of tax_item (HST ITC) in the IIF file but I doubt anything will be done.  The current IIF import kit is from the year 2008 and for over 13 years, Intuit has not made any changes to the IIF format which indicates any improvements to the IIF file format is very unlikely.

This issue has been a thorn on my year-end for the last several years.  I don't mind making manual journal entries for a few, but if it becomes many, the preference has been to using IIF import.

I am having the same problem and I am afraid to have to change all itens manually each time.

No, still a problem every year about this time Jan/Feb when I need to do my year-end.

Hi James was hoping you could let us know what column name or names to use in the IIF template file for the SPL transactions that was referenced earlier in the the thread to reflect HST (ON) or HST (ITC) and hit the corresponding tax lines in the tax summary.
