Hi all, I'm planning to run a business in Ontario. Is there anyone here who can walk me through the steps of starting a business in Ontario? In Ontario, who is eligible to register a business, and what are the limitations to start one? Do you have any limitations? Can I use my name as the company name? If someone could assist me with this, that would be fantastic. I came to read this blog on how to register a business and was very informative. Please leave your thoughts on this and provide any suggestions. Thank you.
Hi Anto,
It's so great to hear that you're looking to open a business in Ontario, and I know that opening a new business comes with a lot of questions. My goal is to provide you with some resources that may be able to help you figure out your next steps so that you can get started on the right foot.
I see you've already been doing some research, which is great. In addition to the blog you found, I also recommend checking out government resources like Ontario.ca and Canada.ca. These sites should have a wealth of information for you, and you can even see if there are any support lines to get extra guidance. Here are some links I pulled from a quick search.
If you're still looking for additional guidance with this, I suggest seeing if you have any local resources that can help with getting started with a business. A business management professional or business advisor may have some other insights to help you get started.
From a QuickBooks perspective, I see you've picked QuickBooks Self-Employed as the product you're using. Since you're thinking of opening a business, that could very well mean switching to the QuickBooks Online platform, which will give you the opportunity for more features and tools for business bookkeeping rather than self-employed bookkeeping. Here are a couple of links that you can review and keep on hand as you decide if this is the best move for you.
For the second link, I recommend only going with those steps if you're able to keep using the same set of books. Typically in these situations, it'll mean opening a brand new set of books because it'll be a different business entity, but a business advisor or even an accountant may be able to best advise you to make sure you have the correct direction for your situation. You can check out accountants that are familiar with QuickBooks here: Find an Accountant
I wish you the best with the next stage in your journey as a business owner!
