Hey Quickbooks community,
Having another problem and this is an unusual one to me. I have a client with Quickbooks Online Desktop App version 1.31.9 on a Dell Windows 11 laptop. When they try to do a Company and Financial > Profit and Loss YTD Comparison report, they put in for the report Last Fiscal Year (Feb. 2023-Jan. 2024) and then under compare another period, they put in Year-to-date and they generate the report and it shows the Last Fiscal Year (Feb. 2023-Jan. 2024) in both columns, the second column doesn't show the Year-to-date and is not working right. The same thing happens when I change the report to Last Calendar Year, Last Calendar Year YTD and Last Fiscal Year YTD and maybe other report options, too. I haven't gone through all of them yet.
However, if I changed the compare another period to previous year-to-date and put in This Fiscal Year, then it works fine, but the current fiscal year appears in the first column and the previous fiscal year shows in the second column.
Does anyone have any idea if there's a setting wrong, or if there's a glitch or what the issue might be? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!!!
Hi RJSBird,
Thanks for reaching out to us here. It's vital you're able to use the program without running into issues. Rest assured, I'll be happy to steer you in the right direction.
It's important to note that the QB Online Desktop app has been discontinued. You'll have to use a web-browser or the mobile application to access your QuickBooks account. In case you're having issues with the browser, I'd like to start off by troubleshooting this issue to determine if it's a browser issue. Clearing cache and cookies is a great way to clean your browser allowing it to work more efficiently. Here's an article that shows you how to do that: How to clear cache and cookies.
I'll be one message away in case you need further assistance.
Hi, James,
I did clear the cache for all browsers and used Quickbooks online through Chrome, went to create a Profit and Loss Comparison for Previous Fiscal Year and compared it Year-to-date and it did the same thing, showed only Feb. 2023-Jan. 2024 in both columns. However, I did read that for Profit and Loss Comparison reports, that if you want to compare another period, that you HAVE to select Previous year-to-date in that drop-down menu, otherwise I guess it just assumes the same current Year-to-date as what you have put in the report period.
When I put in This Fiscal Year for report and compare another period and put in Previous Year-to-date, it works fine.
Hi there, the client demonstrated his problem to us. It appears that the issue is that the Quickbooks Online Desktop app, when you go to Reports > Company and Financials > Profit and Loss (YTD Comparison).
Under Compare Another Period, it always comes up as Year-to-date being checked. We don't want this, we always want Previous year-to-date checked and to use that when comparing another period. When we generate a report, it works fine. We go to Save customization. However, after we close and reopen the Quickbooks online app, when you go back to Reports > Company and Financials > Profit and Loss (YTD Comparison), the Compare another period reverts back to Year-to-date and the settings do not save.
I showed the client the workaround, but he's an elderly person and really does not want to have to do additional steps if he can help it.
Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Welcome back, RJSBird.
