Hi, we are trying to upgrade from a 2002 to 2018 Canadian Pro Desktop Version. Can someone please tell me which intermediate versions of QuickBooks that we need and where to download them? Thank you in advance for your help.
You will need to upgrade in 4-5 steps to open your file on QuickBooks CA 2018. Unfortunately it is difficult to find the installer of older CA version. I would suggest to call and ask Intuit Data Service to convert your file. Otherwise, consider purchasing a 3rd party conversion service.
Hi Plung, thank you for replying.
We have tried Data Recovery Service before. After we got the 2018 company file back, we are able to view the data, but having trouble enter new transactions. At that time, I haven't joined the non-profit organization to help, so the bookkeeper continues to use the 2002 version.
I have successfully upgraded company file through intermediate version before. Just forgot which year I did it on and also cannot find the links to download the previous versions.
Company only provides the recent versions in their site

If you don't mind, send a private message to me regarding the name of service provider who have converted your file earlier.
How do I send you a private message?
I just noticed that your rank is not allowed to send any PM yet.

Hi plung
Sorry for not getting back to you for so long. I was pulled away to work on something else.
I think the problem does not lie with the service provider. I have tried to start fresh by creating new company file in the 2018 QB version and by entering opening balances manually. I created the chart of accounts with both English and Chinese characters in the Account Name. When entering the journal entry for the opening balances, one of the accounts would give me an error saying the Account is not in the Account List even though the account name would pop up when I type in the first few letters.
I tried creating a different account (also with both English and Chinese characters). QuickBooks allows me to save. However, when I tried entering the same journal entry the second time, the problematic account would show the same error message even though there is already a balance in the account.
We have thought of not using Chinese characters in the account list. However, I am reluctant to do that as we do need to use Chinese for our customers (both customer list and item list). Also, I think there is one time that the same error message appeared when I selected an account with no Chinese characters in the account name.
Do you know if this is a problem in QuickBooks or is this a Windows problem?
