How do I get interest to show on customer statements?

Hi @joseemiron12 ,

thank you for reaching out to the community. I will be more than happy to assist you.

You have two options to charge interest to your customers:

  • Create a separate invoice for the charge
  • Add another line item on the past due invoice

First, if you haven't created an interest item yet, let's go ahead and create it. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then choose Products and Services.
  2. Click New.
  3. Choose either Non-inventory or Service.
  4. Enter a desired name of the interest.
  5. Choose the Income account, then click Save and close.

Now, here's how you can add the item on the new invoice:

  1. Click the Plus sign (+) icon, then choose Invoice.
  2. Under the PRODUCT/SERVICE column, add the interest item.
  3. Enter the amount manually in the AMOUNT tab.
  4. Click Save and close.

If you want to include the interest on the existing invoice, here's how:

  1. Click Sales, then go to the Customers tab.
  2. Choose the customer, then look for the past due invoice.
  3. Add the interest item in the unused line, then enter the amount.
  4. Click Save and close.

Kind regards,

Noelia

How do I get interest to show on customer statements?

Hi joseemiron12,

It's always nice to hear from our QuickBooks Community members. QuickBooks Online is a streamlined version of the QuickBooks product designed to help people keep on top of their record keeping. One of the features you'll find in a desktop product and not in the online product is adding interest to unpaid invoices. Noelia Nievas shared the options for entering these types of charges. I have some additional information to share.

You may find a third-party app that can help. You can browse through the apps that will integrate with QuickBooks Online in the Apps section in the left column.

If you'd like to see the option for adding charges to statements considered for future updates, I invite you to provide feedback by:

  1. Go to the Gear Icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Fill in all your ideas, and click Submit feedback.

If you have any further questions, reach out. I'm here to help. Take care.
