Hi there jack777,
QuickBooks Online's Multicurrency feature makes it easy for small business owners to invoice customers from all over the world. Once it's turned on, your invoices will display the amount owing in CAD, as long as you've set it up as your home currency. Let me explain how this works!
Multicurrency is an advanced feature that enables you to track transactions in foreign currency in either QuickBooks Online Essentials or Plus. In order to take advantage of the extended abilities that you'll have with this tool, you'll need to turn it on. Please follow the steps below to Turn on and use multicurrency:
Once you've turned Multicurrency on, as @LeithG mentioned above, the currency on your invoices will display as CAD automatically. To see this in action select Print or Preview at the bottom of a new or existing Invoice. This shows you what your customer sees when they receive the invoice. You'll notice across from Balance Due that it shows the amount preceded by CAD.
I know you'll make great use of the Multicurrency feature! Enjoy your day.
So my question is related to this one: how to change the symbol that is used on the actual PDF of the invoice. I want to see $ instead of USD and € instead of EUR. If I change the template it doesn't change the symbol used unfortunately.
Hi LaurenPP. Glad to have you chime in on this post. I'll be happy to share more information so you can continue managing your business with peace of mind. At this time, there isn't an option to change the currency symbol in QuickBooks. I can see how this feature would be useful to you and others and I recommend sending feedback to our engineers. You can do this by clicking the Gear icon and looking for Feedback.
Let me know if you have other questions, I've got your back.
Good Day,
The feature needs to happen. The multi-currency repercussions are not truly indicated. I do very little business in USD if I knew that it would change all the templates and dollar symbols I would have not done multicurrency.
QuickBooks online really failed on this!
Hi,
I am disappointed with the multi currency function. This is not a true representation of Multi currency options. Sending an invoicing show CAD amount to my US customers doesn't make any sense.
And now I can't turn it off.....:(
Hi there. I appreciate your feedback about the Multi-currency feature. I know how important it is to be able to invoice your US customers in USD. While this feature isn't available, I highly recommend looking into third-party payment processing apps such as Square and PayPal among many other great apps. QuickBooks lets you sync your favourite payment processing apps with your QB account making it easy to manage your transactions. If you're already using a third-party payment processor, I encourage you to search for an app on our website www.apps.com. Once you're on the site, enter the name of the payment processor you're using and hit search. I recommend going with the app that suits your business needs.
Let me know if you have other questions, I've got your back.
This looks terrible. I just want my invoices and estimates to show $ and not USD. How is that difficult? Is the official answer really that we should look for other providers who can display dollars as $? All of my invoices and estimates are in USD and even the individual lines on the invoice show $ but the total shows up as $USD ##.##
That's super lame.
Thanks for joining this thread and sharing your concerns with the currency display in QuickBooks Online, @ljkhg.
We appreciate your insights and feedback about this topic. We acknowledge the need to be able to have the option to change currency symbols in the program. However, the updates in the program are released based on certain several factors. Regretfully, we're unable to provide the turnaround time on when new features are released in QuickBooks, since this is handled by the Developers Team.
For this, we ask that you continue sending your suggestion through a product feedback. Follow the steps below in your QBO account:

Why would you enter an invoice in CAD for a US vendor? Make sure the vendor is set as USD if that's what you want.
You misunderstand.
