Once you opt in, a refreshed interface for QuickBooks makes it easier for you to collaborate and get work done—offering a better overview of your clients’ businesses in one comprehensive and customizable control centre.

Getting familiar with the improvements in next evolution of QuickBooks

We understand you’re accustomed to using QuickBooks in a way that works for you, and changes can take some getting used to. We also know that when the way you use QuickBooks changes, you’ll want it to feel worthwhile. That’s why we’re here to guide you through the new experience so you can make the most of QuickBooks—for you, and for your clients.

The new experience will become the default soon. We recommend trying it out now to be ready for the change. For a limited time, you'll have the chance to opt out if needed—but eventually, everyone will switch over to the new experience. We’ll also provide some helpful resources at the end of this article to set you up for success.

Let’s dive in!

Find what you need fast with the new app carousel

First, let’s get familiar with some nomenclature changes. We've changed the way we refer to a couple of items:

  • Previously, you may have referred to items like Accounting and Expenses as modules, pages, or screens. Now, they’re called apps.
  • For third-party plug-ins that you may have previously referred to as apps, those are now called integrations and are found in the top right corner under the plug icon.

In the new interface, all your bookkeeping tasks are located in a handy app carousel. This gives you one-click access to the things you previously accessed in multiple locations, like Transactions, Sales, Expenses, Projects, Payroll and more. Some of the names are new, but the features remain the same.

You can also access those same apps from the app carousel using My apps on the left side of your screen. This provides another way to access the things you use most.

Let’s take a tour through the new app carousel and menu options, so you can see the new interface in action:

Put everything within reach using new customization options

Just under the app carousel, your dashboard now has an easy way to create customized actions you can bookmark. Plus, you can customize your dashboard workspace with a greater selection of widgets than ever before.

Now, instead of using the +New button, you’ll use the Create button to find options for things like Customers, Suppliers, and Team.

And, a consolidated smart search bar now allows you to search for anything including customers, reports, help or even a subset of transactions, like “transactions over $3000.” In this example, you’ll see all transactions that exceed $3000 appear right in the search results.

Let’s take a closer look at these new features in our next video:

Add even more accuracy to your work with AI-powered bank feeds

With the introduction of AI-powered efficiencies, the bank feed will help you get more done and reduce manual work. An improved interface improves your experience, and the addition of AI complements your expertise to reduce manual work. The navigation has a refreshed look, but it still works the same. Plus, our new AI-driven matching and categorization features help you streamline your workflows with more accuracy.

We've made a couple of changes to the terminology here:

  • “For review” is now called “Pending”
  • “Categorized” is now called “Posted”

Let’s take a look at how the new AI-powered bank feed works to enhance accuracy and efficiency:

Recapping the latest features at a glance

Now that you’ve seen how the new QuickBooks interface works, let’s run through a summary of the key changes and improvements:

  • Global naming changes:
  • Previously, items like Accounting and Expenses were referred to as modules, pages, or screens. Now, they’re called apps.
  • For third-party plug-ins that you may have previously referred to as apps, those are now called integrations and are found in the top right corner under the plug icon.
  • The app carousel: All your key bookkeeping tasks are now located here at the top of your screen.
  • My apps: At the left side of your screen, this menu gives you another way to access many of the same apps found in the app carousel.
  • Accounting: All your accounting items, like bank transactions, reconciliation, recurring transactions, chart of accounts, and more.
  • Expenses & Bills: Everything you use to manage your expenses.
  • Sales & Get Paid: Track estimates, invoices, payments, reports, and more.
  • Team: Edit or add team members.
  • Tax: Access sales tax and payroll tax.
  • Payroll: The diamond icon indicates that this is a paid add-on. Click on Payroll to learn how to subscribe to QuickBooks Payroll and integrate it directly into your workflow.
  • Pinned apps: Pin up to 3 of your favourite apps by selecting Customize.
  • My menu (Accountant tools): Accountant tools are now located in the My menu section on the top left corner of your screen with the briefcase icon. You can customize your menu with your selections from Sections, Bookmarks, Create, and Tools.
  • Customizable shortcuts: The customizable Create actions menu is located at the top of the dashboard (below the App carousel). You can add up to 10 shortcuts here for easy access.
  • More widgets and a customizable dashboard: You now have more widgets to choose from. Your default dashboard view can now be more personalized by adjusting size, position, and selection of widgets.
  • Create button: Similar to the +New button from the previous interface, hover to find options for things like Customers, Suppliers, and Team.
  • Bookmarks: Bookmarks function as before. Bookmark any page for easy access.
  • Smart search: Consolidated smart search at the top of your screen allows you to search for anything—reports, customers, help articles, or even a range of transactions like “transactions over $3,000”.
  • Reports: You can find reports in the left menu as before, but now you’ll also find your financial planning tab containing the cash flow overview and cash flow planner functions.
