Hello stellafaiko-gmai,

Thanks for sharing your concerns about the QuickBooks Self-Employed software and the details available about it during the signup process. I'll be glad to go over this with you.

I know having all the information you need about a service before signing up is important and I appreciate the feedback about noting more clearly that the program doesn't support QST. Right now, that detail is available in the Sales Tax Overview article, but I absolutely see the value in having it elsewhere too. I encourage you to share your thoughts about this by using the feedback process built into QuickBooks Self-Employed. Here's how.

  1. Select the Assistant feature.
  2. Type and enter the word feedback.
  3. Follow the prompts.

This is a great way to let us know what we can do to enhance the program and our signup processes. We know many business owners are eager to have the QST option available in QuickBooks Self-Employed and it's something we're continuing to explore. Adding your voice to the conversation can help with this process.

At this time, there isn't a way to get around this within the QuickBooks Self-Employed program. Since having the Quebec Sales Tax is important to you, I recommend considering QuickBooks Online, which does support this sales tax type. I encourage you to check out the Switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online article, which goes over the options for switching from one to the other if you'd like to do so. If you have questions about the process, you can reach the dedicated QuickBooks Self-Employed team by once again accessing the Assistant feature, but this time type and enter "talk to human," then follow the prompts.

I hope that helps!

It looks like a scam, so much! Aren’t there laws against it in Quebec?

Hello GHLarou,

I hear your concerns about this. At QuickBooks, we strive to provide software that meets the needs of business owners and our product development team keeps a sharp eye on government regulations. Since QuickBooks Self-Employed doesn't current support Quebec sales tax, QuickBooks Online can be considered as an alternative.

I always encourage business owners and self-employed entrepreneurs to weigh their options and make the best decision for their needs. While we'd love to have you with QuickBooks, we know that it's not the right fit for everyone.

I'll share your concerns with my team to make sure your voice is heard. I'll also be here should you have further questions.

Hi Georges00,

Thanks for joining in on this discussion. Choosing a product that meets all your needs is important and I want you to know that your concerns have been heard.

  1. Navigate to the Assistant in the upper right corner.
  2. Type the word feedback and hit Enter.
  3. Follow the prompts to submit feedback.

I want you to know that I'll be passing the your concerns along to my team as well. We care about our customers and our goal is to do right by you.

Same here, this means i have been paying for this service for a full year and it is only half useful. As mentioned above there should be a DISCLAIMER upon sign up, this is not only dishonest (purposely or not, its withholding information), it is also a huge waste of time which is the opposite purpose of using this app/platform. Do yourselves and your users a favor and make it clear Quebec Taxes are not factored in. I d go even as far as not allowing quebec user to sign up for self employed. This is unacceptable. Even more because this has been pointed out by other users and you havent  prevented from happening again cuz here I am....

Finally after months of struggle... By the way, even if you install QB Online.. You will be facing another problem: YOU CANT MIGRATE from QBSE to QBO. Well! Good luck doing it with CSV and manually adding invoices, receipts, etc.

Cant include QST! 100% it's a business strategy to funnel QBSE users to QBO.

That's good to know, it sounds like an absolute pain. I was just wondering if I should drop them, especially since Turbotax and QB somehow magically seem to have forgotten about the promotion that QB is free with Turbotax use.

Hi audemaeva.

Moving from QuickBooks Self Employed to QuickBooks Online is something that can definitely be done. I'd be happy to go over how to transfer and about the free year subscription of QuickBooks Self Employed with turbotax.

Allow me to first go over the free year subscription. As this was offered for the 2019 tax season the free subscription would have been for April 2020 to April 2021. As this was not one of the offers for the 2020 tax season you'd need to subscribe to QuickBooks Self Employed to keep it going. You can do that from a web browser by following these steps:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Self-Employed.
  2. Select the profile icon and then Billing info.
  3. Select Subscribe.
  4. Review your billing and payment info.
  5. Select Subscribe.

If you instead wish to upgrade to QuickBooks Online so you can have access to QST you can do so by following the steps in this article.

If you have any questions let us know and we'd be happy to help!

The business version is not advisable for a self-employed person who is registered with the gst/tvq taxes. Especially when you have personal expenses it is very confusing not to be able to separate personal and professional expenses. It's very frustrating considering that the self-employed version is well thought out apart from this Quebec tax problem.

I agree 100%.

Self-employed does not cover my TPS/TVQ tax deductions for my business expenses.

QBO does that but is good for registered company and it sucks in dividing percentage of personal and business expenses for registered person! so non of the versions cover my needs completely.

I know how it can be frustrating when you have limited functions for the service you paid for, @Mahdavimail.

We recognize the need to have the additional options and preferences in the program like being able to use QST Taxes. Please know that any changes in the program is released based on certain several factors. We're unable to provide the turnaround time on when new features are released in QuickBooks, since these are handled by the Developers Team.

If you have ideas and requests, share your suggestion within the program through product feedback. Follow the steps below in your QBSE account:

  1. Tap the Assistant icon on top of the account.
  2. Type Feedback then press Enter.
  3. Click on the Add a feature option.
  4. Add your feedback then press Enter again on your keyboard.
  5. Press Yes when asked "Ready to send". See this sample screenshot:

All our program features and enhancements are launched and created with you in mind. To be updated with the recent and upcoming changes for QuickBooks products, visit these sites:

Please come back anytime if you require further assistance with the features in QuickBooks Self-Employed, I'll be more than glad to be of your assistance.

It's been 3 years since this post, could someone from Intuit confirm if the feature is planned on the roadmap at all?

Like other pointed out in this thread, being able to track taxes is critical for invoicing and accounting purpose on transactions.

Is there any workaround available like setting up custom tax profile (custom rates etc?)  I will have to cancel the subscription and ask for a refund if this product does not work with my province tax rates.

I switched to the online version which they claim supports Quebec taxes but still you can’t categorize a money out completely as a VAT for when you transfer a car etc…

these are basic functionality supposedly!
