2025 update

Depending on what version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) you're using, updates will be available both for the system and the new payroll tax table, @mary53. I'll provide more details below to give you more insights into this.

If you're asking about the system update, QBDT will notify you about the upcoming update to align it with your payroll updates. You must use the supported version to take advantage of these updates and ensure accuracy. Additionally, a prompt will appear to let you install the latest updates as soon as they are available.

In case you're referring to Intuit releasing a newer version of the program, you can check this page for updates: What’s new in QuickBooks Desktop 2024.

On the other hand, here's an article to help you keep your tax table updated: Download the latest payroll tax table update for QuickBooks Desktop.

In case you're referring to something else, @mary53. Please let us know in the comment section so we can respond as soon as possible and provide the details you need. You can also ask us if you have other QuickBooks-related concerns or need further assistance updating your current version.

I use Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise.  Every year we have to update to the latest version (ie 2025) by June 30th in order for payroll to function starting July 1st.  Is that not the case this year since there is no 2025 version?

Yes, you'll need to have the latest R14_28 version and security updates available for your QBDT 2024 account to avoid in-product issues, Phil.

In regards to your payroll, effective January 1, 2025, the current payroll tax table version of your desktop 2024 is 12034003. Please ensure to have it updated to prevent any errors or discrepancies in your payroll account.

If you haven't yet, here's how to download the latest payroll update:

  1. In your QBDT account, select Update QuickBooks Desktop from the Help menu.
  2. Click on the Update Now tab and choose Get Updates.
  3. Select File, then Exit.
  4. Once done, restart your QuickBooks Desktop.

Let's get your QuickBooks Desktop 2024 update completed for you, Mary.

The update error message you encountered could happen due to corrupted or improperly modified installation files, issues with the config.msi folder, or conflicts within your Windows system.

To resolve this, I recommend uninstalling and then reinstalling your QBDT app. This process will allow the program to rename essential QuickBooks folders and fix company file issues. Rest assured, your data will remain completely safe and unaffected.

Before proceeding, please have your QuickBooks license number handy and download the installer for your specific QuickBooks Desktop version to ensure a smooth reinstall. You can get your license number from your account management portal.

Here's how to uninstall it:

  1. Search for Control Panel from the Windows Start menu and open it.
  2. Select Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
  3. Choose the QBDT version you want to remove from the list of programs.
  4. Select Uninstall

If you don’t see the Uninstall option, please sign out and sign back into Windows using an account with administrator rights, then try again.

After uninstalling, proceed with reinstalling it using the installer you downloaded. During installation, QuickBooks will automatically create new installation folders and rename the old ones to prevent conflicts.

Alternatively, you can manually uninstall it and rename the installation folders before reinstalling, as detailed in Solution 2 of the Reinstall QuickBooks Desktop article. This clean install process helps resolve corrupted files and ensures a fresh, error-free installation.

If the issue persists, I suggest running the Quick Fix My Program tool from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This tool can quickly repair common program issues that cause the update error.

I've included this article to help you explore the accessibility features and display reader support that make QuickBooks easier for you: Accessibility features in QBDT.

We'll keep this thread open for future questions or concerns about updating your program or any other tasks in QBDT.
