two weeks ago, maybe more i changed my credit card for my monthly payment for quick books pro desktop, for my payroll account etc.
This morning I got a notice saying that my payment did not go through, however, they are trying to use an old card that was on the account. Which is not even showing on my payments and billing anymore
Plus, the amount has gone up 50.00 since last month
If the billing information update was successful, the new card should be showing on your account, and the system shouldn't try to charge the old one. To ensure everything proceeds smoothly, please double-check that the new card details are accurate and that sufficient funds are available for the payment.
The $50 increase last month is due to a standard price update from Intuit for QuickBooks Desktop and Payroll subscriptions.
Don't hesitate to comment below if you require additional assistance with updating your billing account details in QuickBooks Desktop.
Yes, the billing update was successful. I checked and all is right.
The old card was removed, so not sure why it is being used.
There are sufficient funds on the card to pay
That is a huge increase. Why did we not get a notice that it was being increased?
Since your old card has already been removed and the new one is set up, this may have been a timing issue where the charge was initiated before the update was fully processed.
I suggest reaching out to our QuickBooks Support team for them to check if your old card is still not updated. Our team can check your account and could provide additional information on what the next step is.
Regarding the price increase, as part of Intuit's continued investment in product innovation and platform reliability, pricing was updated in QuickBooks.
An email notification was sent to all QuickBooks Desktop users on March 1, 2026, informing them about the upcoming change. Also, the new pricing took effect on May 1, 2026, and applied to your billing date of the month.
If you didn't receive the email, I suggest checking your spam or junk folder.

Hello,
I've received no notifications that there was a price increase and have checked my spam/junk folders.
That is a huge increase, which unfortunetly I don't think I can afford.
As for the card, it was removed at least three weeks ago, and a new one added.
Do you need to run any add-ons? e.g payroll
At the moment I am not using the payroll, because we have no employees
But will need it when it is time to do t4 slips etc.
You can use QB Desktop with a non-subscription license for everyday use. Whenever you need to file T4 annually, subscribe to QB Desktop for one month.
Thanks, I just may do that.
once again this morning i am getting the same email that they are trying to use the old card and not the new one
[email address removed] is who the email is coming from.
Can i just unsubscribe to the payroll part?
Canceling payroll independently isn't supported in QuickBooks Desktop because Intuit now packages the software as a bundled annual subscription. Payroll is integrated directly into the core QuickBooks Desktop Plus license rather than acting as an optional add-on.
Because the software and payroll features are packaged together, the system does not allow you to unbundle them or cancel the payroll portion individually. To stop the payroll service, you must cancel your entire QuickBooks Desktop subscription, which will also result in losing access to your main accounting software.
For more details regarding these changes, please refer to this article: QuickBooks Desktop sale discontinuation frequently asked questions.
Feel free to reply directly to this message if you have any more questions.
So I have to unsubscribe to quick books all together rather than just cancelling the payroll part?
Yes, that's correct. If you're using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) bundled with a payroll subscription, you can't cancel the payroll portion on its own. To stop the payroll service, you would have to cancel your entire QBDT subscription.
However, if your payroll is billed as a separate, standalone subscription, our Live Support team can process this cancellation for you manually. They can also look into the backend of your account to completely remove that old credit card, so you stop receiving those failed payment alerts.
Please note that if you do cancel your payroll subscription now, you'll lose access to the automated tax form features. You won't be able to generate T4 slips inside QuickBooks later this year unless the service is active.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
